1. Novel approaches using electrocardiographic imaging for early detection of ARVC in patients and relatives and symptoms preceding sudden death
Sammanfattning : Arrhythmogenic Right Ventricular Cardiomyopathy (ARVC) is an inherited disease of the myocardium, predominantly affecting the right ventricle (RV). Arrhythmias are common among patients with the disease and Sudden Cardiac Death (SCD) can occur even in early stages. LÄS MER
2. Mapping the human proteome using bioinformatic methods
Sammanfattning : The fundamental goal of proteomics is to gain an understanding of the expression and function of the proteome on the level of individual proteins, on the level of defined cell types and on the level of the entire organism. In this thesis, the human proteome is explored using membrane protein topology prediction methods to define the human membrane proteome and by global protein expression profiling, which relies on a complex study of the location and expression levels of proteins in tissues and cells. 3. Imaging and Spectroscopic Mapping of Blood Cell Activity : Nanoparticles and Neutrophil Extracellular Traps
Sammanfattning : Imaging and visualization of cell activity when exposed to nanomaterial are of main importance, when investigating biological response to a wide range of biomaterials from medical implants to smart nanoprobes. The ability to provide molecular and chemical information with spatial resolution in the region of sub-µm leads to increased insight and understanding of these biological challenges. LÄS MER
4. Photoemission and Characterization of Neutrophils and Nanoparticles : Energy Mapping and Elemental Composition with sub-µm Resolution
Sammanfattning : Imaging and visualization of cells and tissues are important when studying various biological phenomena. The ability to provide spatial information with molecular and chemical specificity may increase our insight and understanding of biological problems within life sciences. LÄS MER
5. Imaging vision : functional mapping of intermediate visual processes in man
Sammanfattning : The human visual system is highly adept at recognizing objects independent of changes in viewing conditions, such as viewpoint, illumination, and partial occlusions by other objects in the visual environment. This invariance to viewing conditions is believed to be achieved by generating invariant shape representations from the variable visual input. LÄS MER
