  1. 16. Metabolomics, body composition and fracture

    Författare :Rui Zheng; Karl Michaëlsson; Harri Sievänen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Metabolomics; LC-MS; sample quality; cohort; body composition; fracture; Medicinsk vetenskap; Medical Science; Bioinformatics; Bioinformatik; Epidemiologi; Epidemiology; Orthopaedics; Ortopedi; Kemi med inriktning mot analytisk kemi; Chemistry with specialization in Analytical Chemistry;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis, I evaluated the impact of pre-centrifugation sample management on the plasma metabolome, providing verification for the protocol used in a study where I applied metabolomics to better understand the role of body composition in fracture occurrence using a large population-based cohort.  In paper 1, I applied untargeted liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS) metabolomics analysis to plasma samples (n = 471) from healthy donors to predict and evaluate the effect of pre-centrifugation temperature and delay time on metabolomics data using a combination of random forest and generalized linear models. 2. 17. Sex steroid secretion during childhood in males - with focus on prematurity, birth size, and growth patterns

    Författare :Kjersti Kvernebo-Sunnergren; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; androgens; birth weight; body height; body weight; child; estrogens; male; mass spectrometry; premature birth; Silver-Russell syndrome;

    Sammanfattning : Aim: The overall aim of the thesis was to evaluate sex steroid secretion patterns during childhood in boys and to study how sex steroid concentrations relate to gestational age, birth weight, growth patterns, and adult height outcome. Patients and Methods: In paper I, 11 growth hormone-treated boys with Silver–Russell syndrome (SRS) who had reached adult height were included. LÄS MER

  3. 18. Body weight, body size and early cardiovascular disease. Epidemiological studies using Swedish registries

    Författare :Christina Lundberg; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; epidemiology; body mass index; obesity; bariatric surgery; gastric bypass; cardiovascular disease; mortality;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Obesity is a known risk factor for cardiovascular morbidity and mortality, as well as for atrial fibrillation and heart failure. While overweight and obesity have become increasingly more common in Sweden and worldwide during the past decades, there have also been an increase of some cardiovascular diseases (CVD) among men and women younger than 45 years old in Sweden. 4. 19. Oligarchs, State Power and Mass Opinion : A Study of the Role of Oligarchs in Post-Soviet Pseudo-democracies

    Författare :Tigran Babajan; Staffan Andersson; Torbjörn Bergman; Karl Loxbo; Joakim Ekman; Linnéuniversitetet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; oligarchs; post-Soviet pseudo-democracies; state power abuse; mass opinion; oligarker; postsovjetiska pseudodemokratier; missbruk av statens makt; folkopinioner; Statsvetenskap; Political Science;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis attempts to understand the role of oligarchs in post-Soviet pseudo-democratic regime trajectories. The two dominant, competing streams of prior work have emphasized either the importance of state power or that of mass opinion in these processes in order to explain why some regimes successfully maintain their grip on power, while others make gradual steps towards democratization. 5. 20. Sex steroid metabolism and body composition

    Författare :Charlotte Swanson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :UDP glucuronosyltranferases; polymorphisms; androgens; glucuronidated androgen metabolites; fat mass; bone; metabolic risk factors; population study;

    Sammanfattning : Background: The bioactive androgens testosterone (T) and dihydrotestosterone (DHT) regulate bone and fat mass in men. The effects of androgens are largely determined by the rate of their synthesis and inactivation. LÄS MER
