21. Variability of blood pressure and heart rate in borderline and mild hypertension : With special reference to spectral analysis
Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to study whether blood pressure (BP) or heart rate (HR) variability in borderline (BHT) and hypertensive (HT) subjects differs from that in normotensive (NT) subjects, and whether indices for BP and HR variability can be used in risk stratification for future hypertension. The study groups consisted of 35 NT, 29 BHT, and 34 HT middle-aged men. LÄS MER
22. Cerebral blood flow distribution, collateral function and pulsatility in healthy and in patients with symptomatic carotid stenosis : a magnetic resonance imaging approach
Sammanfattning : Background: For the detection and treatment of early cerebral vascular disease it is of paramount importance to first understand the normal physiology of the cerebral vasculature, and subsequently, to understand how and when pathology can develop from that. This is especially important as the population above 65 years of age is increasing and aging itself is an established risk factor for the development of cerebral vascular disease. LÄS MER
23. Cerebral blood flow and intracranial pulsatility studied with MRI : measurement, physiological and pathophysiological aspects
Sammanfattning : During each cardiac cycle pulsatile arterial blood inflates the vascular bed of the brain, forcing cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and venous blood out of the cranium. Excessive arterial pulsatility may be part of a harmful mechanism causing cognitive decline among elderly. LÄS MER
24. Macula Densa Derived Nitric Oxide and Kidney Function
Sammanfattning : The kidney is the major organ regulating the extracellular fluid volume and thereby the arterial blood pressure. The neuronal isoform of nitric oxide synthase (nNOS) in the kidney is predominantly located in the macula densa cells. LÄS MER
25. Capillary driven devices for patient-centric diagnostics
Sammanfattning : Lateral flow assays is an example of a successful microfluidic platform relying on passive fluid transport, making them suitable for patient-centric and point-of-care applications. Flow control and valving in capillary driven devices typically rely on design-imprinted functions and operations which can be a limiting factor. LÄS MER
