6. Microcirculation in skeletal muscle during hypoperfusion : An experimental study regarding some psysiological and pharmacological factors influencing blood flow and oxygen pressure distributions
Sammanfattning : The vascular bed in skeletal muscle plays an important role in the regulation of the systemic circulation. The present study was undertaken to investigate how capillary blood flow and oxygenation in skeletal muscle are affected by: a) a reduction in the levels of respiratory gases in blood, hypocapnia or hypoxia, and b) the interaction of anesthetics (pentobarbital, propofol, ketamine) during hemorrhage, and c) hypotension induced pharmacologically by adenosine, sodium nitroprusside or acetylcholine. 7. Pharmacokinetic aspects of the blood-brain barrier transport and equilibration of opioids studied with microdialysis in rats and mice
Sammanfattning : The blood-brain barrier (BBB) transport and equilibration of opioids with different physico-chemical properties and similar structures - codeine, morphine, morphine3-glucuronide (M3G) and morphine-6-glucuronide (M6G) - were investigated in rats and mice using microdialysis. The influences of active efflux pumps, P-glycoprotein (Pgp) and multidrug resistance protein (MRP1), on the BBB transport of morphine and M3G were studied. LÄS MER
8. Studies of pancreatic islet microcirculation and insulin secretion in normal and diabetic rats
Sammanfattning : Type 2 diabetes is increasing globally. The disease is characterized not only by hyperglycemia, but also by insulin resistance with attendant dyslipidemia, hypertension and endothelial dysfunction. These aberrations may result in macrovascular disease, and deeply impact the longevity and quality of life in diabetic patients. LÄS MER
9. Hypoxic pulmonary vasoconstriction and nitric oxide
Sammanfattning : Hypoxia causes pulmonary vasoconstriction (HPV), improving oxygenation by redistribution of the pulmonary blood flow to better oxygenated lung regions. HPV is intrinsic to the pulmonary vascular smooth muscle cell, but can be modulated by several vasoactive substances, as for example endothelium derived nitric oxide (NO) and endothelin-1 (ET-1). 10. Articular distension in arthroscopy : an experimental study on intra- and extra-articular effects of pressure
Sammanfattning : The purpose of this thesis was to analyse the effects of various intra-articular pressures (IAP) on soft tissues and to provide guidelines for the choice of safe infusion pressures during arthroscopy. The tensile properties of the knee-joint capsule were recorded from stress-strain-relaxation tests within 170 mmHg IAP. LÄS MER
