1. Effect of antihypertensive treatment at different blood pressure levels
Sammanfattning : BackgroundHigh blood pressure is associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular disease and premature death. The shape of association between blood pressure and the risk of cardiovascular events is debated. Some researchers suggest that the association is linear or log-linear, whereas others suggest it is J-shaped. LÄS MER
2. Intra-Aneurysm Sac Pressure and Clinical Results after Endovascular Repair of Abdominal Aortic Aneurysms
Sammanfattning : AIM: The aim was to evaluate the results of endovascular aneurysm repair (EVAR) of abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAA) in terms of intra-AAA pressure and clinical outcomes. METHODS AND RESULTS: 0.014-inch guide-wire-mounted tip-pressure sensors were used for direct intra-aneurysm sac pressure measurement (DISP) through translumbar puncture of the AAA. LÄS MER
3. Vascular Effects of P2 Receptors. Changes in Congestive Heart Failure
Sammanfattning : Extracellular nucleotides induce dilatation and constriction of blood vessels by activation of P2 receptors. In this thesis the vasomotor effects of P2 receptor activation were studied in the rat mesenteric artery, and their changes in congestive heart failure (CHF) were evaluated using in vitro pharmacology, electrophysiology and competitive RT-PCR. 4. Transvascular fluid exchange with application to the brain. An experimental study in cat skeletal muscle and brain
Sammanfattning : This study evaluated transcapillary fluid exchange in the cat brain and in a cat skeletal muscle enclosed in a plethysmograph. A method for determination of capillary permeability (capillary filtration coefficient and reflection coefficient) and effects of transcapillary hydrostatic pressure changes were studied We found that capillary fluid permeability in a tissue can be determined by the capillary filtration coefficient, even when arterial pressure and vascular tone are changed. 5. Posture and brain function in dementia. A study with special reference to orthostatic hypotension
Sammanfattning : Orthostatic hypotension (OH) is believed to be an important cause of cerebral hypoperfusion, leading to chronic fatigue, blurred vision, unsteadiness, dizziness and sometimes syncope. It may also result in episodes of confusion, falls and fractures. The coupling between OH and organic dementia is not clear. LÄS MER
