  1. 1. Microfluidics Separation and Analysis of Biological Particles

    Författare :Jason Beech; Fasta tillståndets fysik; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Point-of-care; Lab-on-a-chip; Microfluidics; Separation science; Deterministic Lateral Displacement; morphology; deformability; Fysicumarkivet A:2011:Beech;

    Sammanfattning : In the last decade, powerful communication and information technology in the form of the mobile phone has been put into the hands of more than 50% of the global population. In stark contrast, a lack of access to medical diagnostic technology with which to diagnose both communicable and non-communicable diseases will mean that many of these people will die of easily treatable conditions. Sammanfattning : Over the last decades the ongoing work in the fields of Lab-on-a-Chip and Micro-Total-Analysis-Systems has led to the discovery of new or improved ways to handle and analyse small volumes of biofluids and complex biosuspensions. The benefits of working on the microscale include: miniaturization of the analysis systems with less need for large sample volumes; temporal and spatial control of suspended particle/cell positions; low volume sheath flow lamination or mixing; novel separation techniques by using forces inherent to the microscale domain; precise regulation of sample temperatures and rapid analysis with less volumes needed to be processed. 3. 3. Particle-Induced Phase Separation in Aqueous Solutions containing Colloidal Particles and Adsorbing Polymers

    Författare :Martin Olsson; Fysikalisk kemi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Polymer technology; biopolymers; Polymerteknik; theoretical calculations; particle-induced phase separation; phase behaviour; surfactant; colloidal particles; adsorbing polymer;

    Sammanfattning : The influence of added colloidal particles on the phase behaviour of a polymer solution was investigated. Binary, quasi-binary and mixed polymer solutions were used in the study, where at least one of the polymers had an affinity for the surfaces of the colloidal particles. LÄS MER

    Sammanfattning : Capillary-based platforms for diagnostics are popular for the point-of-care diagnostics market because of their low cost, easy fabrication, and easy operation. Lateral flow tests are an excellent example of capillary-based platforms for point-of-care diagnostics. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Assessment of eosinophil degranulation in allergic diseases and experimental models

    Författare :Monika Malm-Erjefält; Avdelningen för klinisk kemi och farmakologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; blood; histochemistry; cytochemistry; tissue culture; Histologi; cytokemi; histokemi; vävnadskultur; animal morphology; Animal anatomy; Djurs anatomi och morfologi; Haematology; cytoplasmic granules ; Hematologi; Respiratory system; extracellulära vätskor; Andningsorganen; toxikologi; farmaci; farmakognosi; Farmakologi; toxicology; pharmacy; pharmacognosy; Klinisk biologi; Pharmacological sciences; Histology; cell separation ; mice; animal models ; biological marker ; transmission electron microscopy allergy; cell degranulation ; Clinical biology; extracellular fluids; eosinophils;

    Sammanfattning : In allergic disorders, the eosinophilic granulocytes migrate to affected tissues and release granule proteins with cytotoxic, immunoregulatory, and remodeling-promoting properties. Given that degranulation is reflected by a loss in eosinophil granule density of living cells, or by cell membrane rupture and release of intact granules, these morphological changes may represent a biomarker of the allergic disease.
