  1. 1. On Caries Risk Profile and Prevention in an Adult Saudi Population

    Författare :Helal Sonbul; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Adults. Approximal caries. Bitewing. Caries risk. Cariogram. Dental restorations. Enamel caries. Fluoride toothpaste. Saudi Arabia.;

    Sammanfattning : Objectives. The aims of this thesis were to evaluate: 1) the caries profile in an adult Saudi population with several dental restorations using a computer-based program (Cariogram), 2) the prevalence of primary and recurrent caries and of filled tooth surfaces in relation to the Cariogram outcome, expressed as “the chance of avoiding caries”, 3) the quality of dental restorations and the additional value of using bitewing radiographs, 4) the effect of a “modified fluoride toothpaste technique” on the incidence and progression of approximal caries diagnosed on bitewings and 5) the preventive effect of this toothpaste technique on buccal and lingual enamel caries and to determine the role of patient compliance. 2. 2. Re-evaluation of methods to identify individuals with increased risk of caries

    Författare :Anna Senneby; Malmö högskola; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; caries; risk assessment; diagnostic accuracy; methodology; acid tolerance; reliability; agreement;

    Sammanfattning : The overall aim of this thesis was to evaluate methods used to identify individuals with increased risk of coronal caries lesion development. The specific aims were to:•evaluate the accuracy of different methods used to identify individuals with increased risk of developing dental coronal caries lesions (study I)•design and pilot a novel classification system for the assessment of caries lesion progression in bitewing radiography and to report rater agreement of the system (study II)•assess intra-individual differences in biofilm acid-tolerance between different tooth surfaces and inter-individual variation as well as stability of acid tolerance over time (study III)•assess diagnostic accuracy of two established methods and a candidate method to identify adolescents with increased risk of dental coronal caries lesion development (study IV). 3. 3. Tobacco smoking and vertical periodontal bone loss

    Författare :Mostafa Baljoon; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Cigarette smoking is associated with increased prevalence and severity of destructive periodontal disease in terms of periodontal pocketing, periodontal bone loss, and tooth loss. The smoking destructive effect on periodontal bone may be of even "horizontal" or vertical "angular" pattern. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Övervikt/fetma hos barn, ungdomar och unga vuxna i relation till vikt, viktutveckling och kariesförekomst

    Sammanfattning : Fetma är en av världens snabbast växande sjukdomar och karies är fortfarande en vanlig sjukdom hos barn och ungdomar. Syftet med denna licentiatavhandling har varit att:beskriva frekvensen av övervikt och fetma från födseln till tjugo års ålder.analysera vikt och viktutvecklingen från födseln till vuxen ålder. 5. 5. Clinical application of QLF and DIAGNOdent : two new methods for quantification of dental caries

    Författare :Sofia Tranæus; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : General aim: The general objective of this thesis was to evaluate the clinical performance of two new methods for quantification of dental caries - the Quantitative Light-induced Fluorescence method (QLF) and KaVo DIAGNOdent. Materials and methods: In Paper I, in vivo measurements with QLF on teeth scheduled for extraction, were compared with transverse microradiography (TMR), and tested for intra-operator reliability.
