  1. 1. Being a physiotherapist : professional role, utilization of time an d vocational strategies

    Författare :Birgitta Bergman; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Physical therapists; physical therapy; professional competence; professional practice; workload measurement; MCA; qualitative studies; employee orientation;

    Sammanfattning : In a research series carried out between 1984 and 1988 in the county of Västerbotten in northern Sweden, various aspects of the professional role and work of physiotherapists were studied. A variety of research methods were used: questionnaires (n = 163), a time budget study (n = 149), and a qualitative interview (n = 24). LÄS MER

  2. 2. On vision in old age. A longitudinal study of subjects 70 to 97 years old

    Författare :Birgitta Bergman; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; elderly; hearing impairment; intervention; longitudinal study; ocular disorders; old; risk factors; visual ability; visual acuity VA ;

    Sammanfattning : Aims. The main purpose of this study was to investigate different aspects of vision and visual function in old people, like change in vision and visual ability, to study the natural course of eye diseases, assess needs of visual intervention, investigate risk factors for ocular disorders late in life, and also to investigate coexistence between visual and hearing impairments. 3. 3. Health promoting factors in people with chronic musculoskeletal pain or with rheumatic diseases: a descriptive and interventional study

    Författare :Susann Arvidsson; Bengt Fridlund; Stefan Bergman; Barbro Arvidsson; Birgitta Klang Söderkvist; Jönköping University; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Adult; chronic musculoskeletal pain; empowerment; health factors; HRQL; intervention; patient education; problem-based learning; rheumatic diseases; self-care; Caring sciences; Vårdvetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : Aim: The overall aim of this thesis with a salutogenic approach was to describe health promoting factors in people with chronic musculoskeletal pain and in people with rheumatic diseases, and to evaluate the effects of an intervention study with a self-care promoting PBL-program for people with rheumatic diseases having chronic musculoskeletal pain, sleep disturbances and/or fatigue. Methods: This thesis is comprised of four samples: a randomly selected sample from a Swedish general population (study I) and three different samples containing people with rheumatic diseases registered at a hospital for rheumatic diseases in the southwest of Sweden (studies II, III and IV). 4. 4. Diazotrophy and diversity of benthic cyanobacteria in tropical coastal zones

    Författare :Karolina Bauer; Birgitta Bergman; Paul K. Hayes; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Marine cyanobacteria; benthic nitrogen fixation; diversity; diazotrophy; Lyngbya majuscula; Zanzibar; western Indian Ocean; Plant physiology; Växtfysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Discoveries in recent years have disclosed the importance of marine cyano-bacteria in the context of primary production and global nitrogen cycling. It is hypothesized here that microbial mats in tropical coastal habitats harbour a rich diversity of previously uncharacterized cyanobacteria and that benthic marine nitrogen fixation in coastal zones is substantial. 5. 5. Detection, transfer and role of an environmentally spread neurotoxin (BMAA) with focus on cyanobacteria and the Baltic Sea region

    Författare :Lotta Berntzon; Birgitta Bergman; Geoffrey Codd; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; β-N-methylamino-L-alanine; BMAA; cyanobacteria; Baltic Sea; blooms; neurotoxin; neurodegenerative diseases; amyotrophic lateral sclerosis; ALS; nitrogenase; nitrogen fixation; Plant Physiology; växtfysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : β-N-methylamino-L-alanine (BMAA) is one of the more recently discovered bioactive compounds produced by cyanobacteria. BMAA is a non-protein amino acid reported present in human brain tissues of patients deceased from a neurodegenerative disease, such as Alzheimer´s disease or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).
