1. Athletic Sprint Start Biomechanics : Investigations into the relationships between three dimensional starting technique, first step width and performance
Sammanfattning : The block and early acceleration phase plays a very important role in the overall outcome of athletic sprint events. During this part of the race it is commonly observed that sprinters use a lower-body technique that involves the swing leg crossing medially in front of the athlete followed by wide steps. LÄS MER
2. Foot-Ankle Joints Responses. Epidemiology, Biomechanics and Mathematical Modeling
Sammanfattning : The purpose of this thesis is to acquire better knowledge of foot-ankle injuries because of their increasing importance in car crashes. Three approaches were used: epidemiology, biomechanics and mathematical modeling. LÄS MER
3. The linear and nonlinear biomechanics of the middle ear
Sammanfattning : This thesis addresses the biomechanics of the human middle ear, that part of the auditory system which converts sound pressure waves in air to fluid pressure waves in the cochlea. The middle ear's mechanism is analysed in four papers, three main and one supporting; in the main papers the middle ear is treated as a multi-particle, multi-rigid body ensemble possessing a variable number of degrees of freedom depending upon the case being investigated. 4. Computational Biomechanics in Cross-country Skiing
Sammanfattning : Traditionally, research on cross‐country skiing biomechanics is based mainly on experimental testing alone. Trying a different approach, this thesis explores the possibilities of using computational musculoskeletal biomechanics for cross‐country skiing. As far as the author knows, this has not been done before. LÄS MER
5. Walking efficiently with smart springs
Sammanfattning : Numerous assistive exoskeletons have been developed in recent years to assist walking in individuals with and without motor disorders. A standard metric to measure the efficacy of assistance is the change in the metabolic energy cost between unassisted and assisted conditions. LÄS MER
