  1. 16. Construction of force measuring optical tweezers instrumentation and investigations of biophysical properties of bacterial adhesion organelles

    Författare :Magnus Andersson; Ove Axner; Lene Broeng Oddershede; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; optical tweezers; biological physics; unfolding; Escherichia coli; force measurements; energy landscape; dynamic force spectroscopy; manipulation; polymers; pili; Physics; Fysik;

    Sammanfattning : Optical tweezers are a technique in which microscopic-sized particles, including living cells and bacteria, can be non-intrusively trapped with high accuracy solely using focused light. The technique has therefore become a powerful tool in the field of biophysics. LÄS MER

  2. 17. On the role of surface properties for implant fixation : From finite element modeling to in vivo studies

    Författare :Patrik Stenlund; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Implant stability; Removal torque; Surface roughness; Surface chemistry; Finite element analysis; Experimental; In vivo; Osseointegration; Mechanical loading; Bone regeneration; Biomechanics;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to gain a deeper understanding of the factors contributing to the fixation of bone-anchored implants, especially with regard to surface chemistry, surface topography and implant loading. The methodology used in the thesis ranges from systematic bench studies, computer simulations, experimental in vivo studies, to load cell measurements on patients treated with bone-anchored amputation prostheses. 3. 18. Neck-Injuries in Rear-End Car Collisions: Sites and Biomechanical Causes of the Injuries, Test Methods and Preventive Measures

    Författare :Mats Svensson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Sammanfattning : The present work addresses the problem of neck injuries following rear-end car collisions. Biomechanics and sites of the injuries have been investigated. A new dummy neck has been developed and used to study the influence of different seat properties on occupant kinematics. LÄS MER

    Sammanfattning : Lung diseases continue to present a large burden to public health, especially in industrialized countries. For abetter understanding of the underlying patho-mechanisms in lung related diseases as well as for testing theefficacy of novel therapies, preclinical studies in animal models are indispensable. 5. 20. The expanded skin in breast reconstruction : an experimental and clinical study

    Författare :Michael Olenius; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Tissue expansion; capsular contraction; rapid and slow expansion; mitotic activity; epidermal thickness; skin thickness; collagen diameter; skin properties; insulin-like growth factorStockholm 1995 ISB;

    Sammanfattning : Tissue expansion has become one of the routine methods in breast reconstruction. It is a safe and easy method, which is well accepted by the patient. Clinical reports are numerous, but morphological changes are still not thoroughly investigated. LÄS MER
