16. Analysis of DNA adducts of some low molecular weight aldehydes : methods development and application in human biomonitoring
Sammanfattning : Malondialdehyde (MA), acetaldehyde (Aa) and methylglyoxal (MG) are ubiquitously present in the environment and endogenously formed in animals and humans. They have been shown to be genotoxic and to readily react with DNA to form DNA adducts under physiological conditions. LÄS MER
17. Biomarkers in perch (Perca fluviatilis) used in environmental monitoring of the Stockholm recipient and background areas in the Baltic Sea
Sammanfattning : This thesis reports the results of biomarker measurements in three environmental monitoring projects. In the first project, which was part of the Swedish national environmental monitoring, biomarkers were measured annually in female perch (Perca fluviatilis) in two background areas in the Baltic Sea during 1988–2000, resulting in a unique 13-year series of measurements. 18. Methodology for hemoglobin adduct measurement : Fetal exposures to acrylamide and other genotoxic agents
Sammanfattning : There is increasing evidence that exposure to toxic chemicals during the prenatal period constitute a higher health risk than exposure during adulthood. To characterize exposure and identify risk factors, sensitive methods for analysis of chemicals in vivo with biomarker methods are needed. LÄS MER
19. Fish bile in environmental analysis
Sammanfattning : This work explores the usefulness of fish bile analysis in combination with biomarkers for identifying and evaluating new environmental contaminants in the aquatic environment. It illustrates how bile analysis can be used together with biomarkers to assess the causes of estrogenic effects, to identify chemicals in the aquatic environment that are taken up by fish, and to monitor environmental exposure. 20. Toxicological and Chemical Characterization of Organic Pollutants with Potential to Adversely Affect Fish
Sammanfattning : Several investigations have described adverse effects in fish inhabiting polluted areas, though the causative, or aetiologic compounds have not been substantiated. Since environmental pollutants exist as complex mixtures, reliable risk estimations are difficult to obtain. LÄS MER
