11. Neurofilaments as biomarkers of neuronal damage
Sammanfattning : Different neurodegenerative diseases have overlapping symptomatology and pathology and have thus become a challenge to modern medicine to achieve a correct diagnosis. The aim of the thesis was to evaluate the use of neurofilaments as biomarkers of neuronal damage by testing their ability to discriminate between different neurodegenerative diseases as well as assessing whether higher neurofilments predict a poorer clinical outcome in ischemic stroke. 12. Clusterin in brain and cerebrospinal fluidin Alzheimer s disease
Sammanfattning : The apolipoprotein clusterin is suggested to be involved in the pathogenesis of Alzheimer¡¦s disease (AD). At the start of these studies, results had indicated that clusterin was elevated in AD brain, compared with controls. LÄS MER
13. Biomarkers of exposure to pesticides in humans
Sammanfattning : Almost every human is exposed to pesticides, in work environments, by domestic use and via diet, drinking water and personal products. Current research expresses concern that low dose exposure over time can lead to adverse health effects. LÄS MER
14. Proteomic strategies for analysis of cerebrospinal fluid in neurodegenerative disorders
Sammanfattning : ABSTRACT There is a great need for biomarkers to diagnose neurodegenerative disorders, such as the cognitive disorders Alzheimer?s disease (AD) and frontotemporal dementia (FTD). Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) is in contact with the extracellular fluid of the brain and is consequently a valuable medium for identifying biomarkers for neurological disorders. LÄS MER
15. Proteomic strategies for blood biomarker development in rare dystrophinopathies
Sammanfattning : Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) and Becker muscular dystrophy (BMD) are two rare genetic disorders of the family dystrophinopathy. They are both caused by the lack of, or reduced production of, the protein dystrophin. LÄS MER
