  1. 16. Towards Energy-Efficient Drinking Water Production using Biomimicry

    Författare :Simon Isaksson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Filter; Membrane Protein; Supported Lipid Bilayer; Drinking Water; Water Treatment; Silica; Aquaporin; Liposome; Biomimicry;

    Sammanfattning : Water is a prerequisite for life and we therefore need pure drinking water to survive. Yet there are more than half a billion people that do not have access to pure drinking water. Water treatment can be performed in many different ways, one of the most commonly used being filtration. 2. 17. Characterization and treatment of municipal landfill leachates

    Författare :Ulrika Welander; Bioteknik; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; physical chemical treatment; biological treatment; characterization; organic substances; leachate treatment; municipal landfill; Biotechnology; Bioteknik;

    Sammanfattning : Abstract The efficiency of different leachate treatment methods for the removal of refractory organic compounds and ammonium-nitrogen was investigated. The methods evaluated were nitrification, denitrification, adsorption onto activated carbon, precipitation by ferric chloride or aluminum sulphate and oxidation by ozone or Fenton´s reagent. LÄS MER

  3. 18. Microbiological hygiene and biological control of leafy green vegetables

    Författare :Elisabeth Uhlig; Avdelningen för livsmedel och läkemedel; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Food hygiene; Biological control; Native microbiota; Escherichia coli; Leafy green vegetables;

    Sammanfattning : Fruit and vegetables are vital components of a healthy diet, and international strategies to encourage their consumption are in place (FAO/WHO, 2005). Ready-to-eat (RTE) leafy green vegetable products have exploded in popularity, and are a convenient and attractive way to add greens to the plate. LÄS MER

  4. 19. The role of biological processes in base cation supply in boreal forest podzols

    Författare :Zaenab Al-Azzawi; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis describes experiments designed to improve understanding of biological processes contributing to supply of base cations and other nutrients in boreal forest podzols. We used microcosms containing tree seedlings growing in natural substrates, a combination of direct measurements, modelling, stable Mg isotope analysis, and 13CO2 pulse-labelling. LÄS MER

  5. 20. Assessing and optimizing biofilter performance in drinking water treatment

    Författare :Nashita Moona; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; full-scale biofilters; sterilization.; optical properties; Biofilter; dissolved organic matter; treatment optimization; drinking water;

    Sammanfattning : Biological filtration is a widely used treatment barrier in drinking water treatment plants to ensure the biological stability of treated water in distribution systems. Biofilters remove particulate and dissolved organic matter (DOM) and biodegradable organic matter from water. LÄS MER
