  1. 16. Function and Evolution of Small Regulatory RNAs and their Associated Proteins : A Journey from Genome to Proteome

    Författare :Bart Edelbroek; Fredrik Söderbom; Jonathan R. Chubb; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; microRNAs; non-coding RNAs; Evolution; Whole Genome Sequencing; Transcriptomics; Proteomics; small RNAseq; Amoebozoa; Multicellular development; Social amoebae; Comparative genomics; Genome annotation; Biologi med inriktning mot mikrobiologi; Biology with specialization in Microbiology;

    Sammanfattning : Organisms throughout the tree of life have evolved distinct ways to regulate gene expression. Some of these processes involve non-coding RNAs (ncRNAs), which are not translated but functional nonetheless. These ncRNAs are of utmost importance, with dysregulation of some causing severe developmental effects or even being lethal. LÄS MER

  2. 17. Computational Protein Evolution : Modeling the Selectivity and Promiscuity of Engineered Enzymes

    Författare :Klaudia Szeler; Shina C. Lynn Kamerlin; Mikael Widersten; Maria Ramos; Uppsala universitet; []

    Sammanfattning : Enzymes are biological catalysts that significantly increase the rate of all biochemical reactions that take place within cells and are essential to maintain life. Many questions regarding their function remain unknown. LÄS MER

  3. 18. Mine the Gaps : Evolution of Eukaryotic Protein Indels and their Application for Testing Deep Phylogeny

    Författare :Pravech Ajawatanawong; Sandra Baldauf; James McInerney; Uppsala universitet; []

    Sammanfattning : Insertions/deletions (indels) are potentially powerful evolutionary markers, but little is known about their evolution and few tools exist to effectively study them. To address this, I developed SeqFIRE, a tool for automated identification and extraction of indels from protein multiple sequence alignments. LÄS MER

  4. 19. The Dawn of a New Age : Interrelationships of Acoela and Nemertodermatida and the Early Evolution of Bilateria

    Författare :Andreas Wallberg; Ulf Jondelius; Mikael Thollesson; Graham Budd; Gonzalo Giribet; Uppsala universitet; []

    Sammanfattning : Deciphering the rapid emergence of bilaterian animals around the time of the Cambrian Explosion and reconstructing the interrelationships of animal groups have long been two of the most elusive problems in Zoology. This thesis concerns the phylogenetic interrelationships within and among Acoela and Nemertodermatida, two groups of small worms that are believed to be basal bilaterians and which may provide important clues for understanding the early evolution of animals. 5. 20. Fungal taxonomy and systematics in the digital era, with an outlook on the cantharelloid clade (Basidiomycota)

    Författare :R. Henrik Nilsson; Göteborgs universitet; []

    Sammanfattning : Fungi form a large and ubiquitous group of organisms where species identification and delimitation on morphological grounds often fall short. DNA sequences have proved an invaluable information source for these pursuits and are now routinely used in most mycological laboratories. LÄS MER
