21. Mechanistic design of structural elements controlling proton pumping in cytochrone c oxidase
Sammanfattning : Cytochrome c oxidase is the last component of the respiratory chain in mitochondria and many bacteria, where it catalyses the reduction of O2 to water. The structures of cytochrome c oxidases from a number of organisms such as bacteria and cow, are known and show remarkable similarities in both structure and function. LÄS MER
22. Utilization of waste materials for extraction of strategic metals : a biogeochemical approach
Sammanfattning : Worldwide the modern society produces vast amounts of waste materials containing strategic and valuable metals. Some of them are of substantial economic or environmental significance if controlled recovery of metals can be performed or if uncontrolled release to the environment occurs. LÄS MER
23. Changing land cover as a driver of surface water browning
Sammanfattning : Streams, rivers and lakes across wide areas of the Northern hemisphere have been subject to an increase in water color over the last decades. This increase, also known as browning, is a result of rising dissolved organic matter (DOM) and iron (Fe) concentrations in the water. LÄS MER
24. Modelling nutrient transport from forest ecosystems to surface waters : The model ForSAFE-2D
Sammanfattning : Forests provide multiple products and services which are all are linked to water resources. Trees need water to grow and, at the same time, they change the quality and the quantity of runoff by modifying water and nutrient cycling. LÄS MER
25. The Baltic Sea Wave Field : Impacts on the Sediment and Biogeochemistry
Sammanfattning : The wave field in the Baltic Sea has been modelled for a two-year period with the spectral wave model HYPAS. There is a large seasonal variation in the field and a minor annual one, both reflect the wind variation in the area. Since the Baltic Sea is fetch limited, the dominant wind direction is important for the maximum wave heights. LÄS MER
