  1. 11. Development and use of an optical pCO2 sensor in marine studies

    Författare :Dariia Atamanchuk; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; pCO2; O2; sensor; optode; cross-sensitivity; carbonate system of seawater; biogeochemistry; Redfield ratio; the Koljo Fjord; cabled observatory; CCS; QICS; environmental engineering; leakage detection; MVDA; DoE;

    Sammanfattning : Partial pressure of CO2 (pCO2) is one of the most important parameters, which are measured in the global ocean in conjunction with ocean acidification studies. It is also a parameter of great interest to aquaculture and fish industries since CO2 in large amounts is highly toxic for animals. The requirements for pCO2 measuring systems, e.g. LÄS MER

  2. 12. Benthic metabolism and sediment nitrogen cycling in Baltic sea coastal areas : the role of eutrophication, hypoxia and bioturbation

    Författare :Stefano Bonaglia; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Eutrophication; Sediment; Benthic Flux; Nitrogen Cycle; Denitrification; Baltic Sea; Biogeochemistry; biogeokemi; marin- och brackvattensekologi; Marine and Brackish Water Ecology; Marine Ecology; marin ekologi; geokemi; Geochemistry;

    Sammanfattning : Eutrophication is one of the greatest threats for the Baltic Sea, and one of its more critical consequences is bottom water hypoxia. Nutrient enrichment and oxygen-depletion affect both the deep central basins and a number of coastal areas, even though strategies for nutrient reduction have lately been implemented. LÄS MER

  3. 13. Long-term development, modeling and management of nutrient loading to inland and coastal waters

    Författare :Amelie Darracq; Georgia Destouni; Andrea Rinaldo; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Nutrients; catchments; environmental management; climate change; population and lifestyle development; subsurface-surface water interactions; long-term simulations; nutrient retention; modeling; hydrology; transport processes; biogeochemistry; scaling; transport and reaction rates; Physical Geography; geografi med naturgeografisk inriktning;

    Sammanfattning : Environmental and water system protection and restoration require accurate knowledge and quantification of waterborne pollutant transport, retention-release and transformation processes taking place in the subsurface, river, lake and sea water systems, and at the interfaces between these systems. This thesis investigates the importance of spatial model resolution for such quantification and the possible long-term nutrient load development under different human perturbations and nutrient source management scenarios in the Swedish Norrström drainage basin, based on simulations with the GIS-based dynamic nutrient transport-attenuation model POLFLOW. 4. 14. Photosystem II : organization, function and regulation

    Författare :Said Eshaghi; Matthias Rögner; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biogeochemistry; biogeokemi;

    Sammanfattning : What makes plants, green algae and cyanobacteria so remarkable is their ability to convert light energy to chemical energy and at the same time evolve oxygen. In order to do so, they have developed a complex molecular machinery involving pigment and co-factor binding multi-protein complexes. LÄS MER

  5. 15. Towards an integrated ecology through mechanistic modelling of ecosystem structure and functioning

    Författare :Thomas Hickler; Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; pedology; cartography; climatology; Fysisk geografi; geomorfologi; marklära; kartografi; klimatologi; geomorphology; Physical geography; integrated ecology; plant hydraulic architecture; climate change; CO2 fertilisation effect; biogeography; biogeochemistry; vegetation dynamics; ecosystem modelling;

    Sammanfattning : Plant physiology, population dynamics and the structure and functioning of ecosystems are closely interrelated. However, these processes are often investigated independently within different subdisciplines of ecology. LÄS MER
