1. Effects of starvation and haemorrhage on the large bowel coliform flora with special reference to bacterial mucosal adherence and translocation
Sammanfattning : Intestinal bacteria translocating to extra-intestinal sites have been suggested to play a role in the etiology of posttraumatic infections and multiple organ failure. In the present study, effects of haemorrhagic stress and /or starvation on the gut flora and bacterial translocation were studied in the rat. LÄS MER
2. Treponema spp. in porcine skin ulcers : clinical aspects
Sammanfattning : The hypothesis tested in this work is that bacteria of genus Treponema play a main role when shoulder ulcers and ear necrosis occur in an infectious or severe form, and perhaps also in other skin conditions in the pig. Samples were collected from pigs in 19 Swedish herds 2010-2011. LÄS MER
3. Molecular and phenotypic characterization of diarrhoeagenic Escherichia coli from Nicaraguan children
Sammanfattning : Diarrhoeal diseases continue to be a foremost public health problem worldwide, with over 1.5 million deaths occurring each year, mostly in children in developing countries. In Nicaragua, the mortality due to diarrhoea in children less than 5 years of age is 11 per 10,000 inhabitants. LÄS MER
4. Lipoproteomics : A New Approach to the Identification and Characterization of Proteins in LDL and HDL
Sammanfattning : A proteomic approach was applied to examine the protein composition of low-density lipoprotein (LDL) and high-density lipoprotein (HDL) in humans. LDL and HDL were isolated by density gradient ultracentrifugation, and proteins were separated with twodimensional gel electrophoresis (2-DE) and identified with peptide mass fingerprinting, using matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization-time of flight mass spectrometry, and with amino acid sequencing using electrospray ionization tandem mass spectrometry. 5. Mass spectrometry in protein structure analysis
Sammanfattning : Mass spectrometry is an important analytical tool in biological and biochemical research. The speed, accuracy and sensitivity is unmatched by conventional analytical techniques. LÄS MER
