16. Human papillomaviruses in skin cancer and cervical cancer
Sammanfattning : The causal relationship between persistent genital infections with human papillomavirus (HPV) and development of cervical cancer is well established. In contrast, the significance of infections with cutaneous HPV for development of non-melanoma skin cancer (NMSC) is not well understood. LÄS MER
17. Adverse Muscle Composition : Revisiting Sarcopenia in General Population and Liver Disease using Magnetic Resonance Imaging
Sammanfattning : Sarcopenia - from the Greek words 'sarx' (flesh) and 'penia' (loss) - was, when coined in 1989, a term denoting the decline in muscle mass and strength that occurs with aging. Such definition implies everyone suffers from sarcopenia to varying degrees, which naturally makes studying sarcopenia challenging. LÄS MER
18. Pregnancy Complications and Cardiovascular Disease
Sammanfattning : Women with a history of pregnancy complications have an increased risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD) later in life. The overall aims were to investigate pregnancy complications as cardiovascular risk factors; whether they have predictive value for the spread of atherosclerosis in older women, whether they are associated with atherosclerotic CVD after adjusting for major confounders, both at the population-level and in women with structural heart disease; and to investigate cardiovascular biomarkers in women with spontaneous preterm birth. 19. Hunter-gatherer-annotator science : characterizing regulatory elements in the genome of dog and zebrafish with public and not yet public data
Sammanfattning : In order to study gene regulation, large amounts of sequencing data are necessary. We can either generate (hunt) them ourselves or use (gather) publicly available data sets. In order to guarantee the reliability and reusability of the hunted and gathered data, we need to also annotate them with the correct metadata. LÄS MER
20. Genetic Contributions to Manifestations and Prognosis of Systemic Lupus Erythematosus
Sammanfattning : Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a severe autoimmune disease with a multifactorial aetiology and an extremely heterogenous clinical picture. This thesis explores the impact of SLE genetic variants, through their cumulative effect or gene-environment interactions, on SLE manifestations and complications. LÄS MER
