6. Modeling adsorption of organic compounds on activated carbon : a multivariate approach
Sammanfattning : Activated carbon is an adsorbent that is commonly used for removing organic contaminants from air due to its abundant pores and large internal surface area. This thesis is concerned with the static adsorption capacity and adsorption kinetics for single and binary organic compounds on different types of activated carbon. LÄS MER
7. Dielectric Relaxation in Dielectric Mixtures
Sammanfattning : In this thesis dielectric properties of both ideal composite structures and polymeric composite materials were investigated. Numerical calculations were performed to simulate frequency response of interfacial polarization using the finite element method in two dimensions. LÄS MER
8. Developmental neurotoxicity of persistent and non-persistent pollutants : Behavioral and neurochemical assessments of a perfluorinated compound, pesticides and interaction effects
Sammanfattning : The focus of this thesis was to investigate developmental neurotoxic effects of different persistent and non-persistent environmental pollutants, alone or in binary mixtures, when exposure occurs during a critical period of brain development, in mice. The compounds investigated included a perfluorinated compound, perfluorohexane sulphonate (PFHxS), and four different pesticides, endosulfan, cypermethrin, chlorpyrifos and carbaryl. LÄS MER
9. Determination and evaluation of pressure-volume-temperature relationships of some halogenated hydrocarbons and their binary mixtures : an experimental and theoretical study

10. Ion Solvation in Critical Binary Aqueous Solvents Probed by Advanced Synchrotron-Based Techniques
Sammanfattning : The Poisson-Boltzmann equation is the standard tool for studying the electrostatic interactions in electrolyte solutions, although it neglects e.g. the ion size and ion-ion correlations. Even experimentally observed specific ion effects cannot be explained in a view of this approximation. LÄS MER
