  1. 1. Essays on Epistemology and Evolutionary Game Theory

    Författare :Elias Tsakas; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Common knowledge; communication; consensus; betting; primitive propositions; negative introspection; information partition; projection; learning.;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis has two parts, one consisting of three independent papers in epistemology (Chapters 1-3) and another one consisting of a single paper in evolutionary game theory (Chapter 4): (1) “Knowing who speaks when: A note on communication, common knowledge and consensus” (together with Mark Voorneveld) We study a model of pairwise communication in a finite population of Bayesian agents. We show that, if the individuals update only according to the signal they actually hear, and they do not take into account all the hypothetical signals they could have received, a consensus is not necessarily reached. 2. 2. Brief online interventions for concerned gamblers in a gambling helpline

    Författare :Håkan Wall; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Problem gambling (PG) is common throughout the world and affects approximately 2% of the adult population in Sweden and most other western countries. Individuals who gamble in a problematic way experience negative consequences in various life domains, such as, economy, physical and mental health, work life and/or in the relations with family and friends. 3. 3. Four applications of stochastic processes : Contagious disease, credit risk, gambling and bond portfolios

    Författare :Patrik Andersson; Andreas Nordvall Lagerås; Håkan Andersson; Stewart N. Ethier; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Stochastic processes; Mathematical statistics; Matematisk statistik; Mathematical Statistics; matematisk statistik;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis consists of four papers on applications of stochastic processes. In Paper I we study an open population SIS (Susceptible - Infective - Susceptible) stochastic epidemic model from the time of introduction of the disease, through a possible outbreak and to extinction. The analysis uses coupling arguments and diffusion approximations. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Structural Determination of Drug Metabolites from Doping Classed Compounds Using Mass Spectrometry

    Författare :Annelie Hansson; Mikael Hedeland; Ulf Bondesson; Peter Hemmersbach; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; mass spectrometry; UHPLC-MS MS; doping control; Cunninghamella elegans; selective androgen receptor modulator; SARM; andarine; ostarine; LGD-4033; roxadustat; HIF stabilizer; Analytical Pharmaceutical Chemistry; Analytisk farmaceutisk kemi;

    Sammanfattning : Doping control in equine sports is important for a fair competition, but also to ensure the integrity of the betting system, as well as for animal welfare reasons. To detect the use of illicit compounds, screening for the parent compound is common. However, by using a metabolite as the analytical target instead, the detection time can be prolonged. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Empirical Studies on Economic and Financial Spillovers : Asymmetric Risk and Dependence Modeling

    Författare :Axel Hedström; Gazi Salah Uddin; Ali M. Ahmed; Ugur Soytas; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Spillovers; systemic risk; risk modeling; risk dependence; asymmetric risk; energy finance; Spillovers; systemisk risk; riskmodellering; risk påverkan; asymmetrisk risk; energifinans;

    Sammanfattning : Financial assets are volatile, and volatility becomes more intense in terms of size and rate of recurrence when markets are uncertain and growing rapidly. The fact that the recurrence rate increased during crisis periods, such as the IT bubble in the early 2000 and the global financial crisis that started in 2007, is a key finding in the literature.
