  1. 1. New approaches to data-driven analysis and enhanced sampling simulations of G protein-coupled receptors

    Författare :Oliver Fleetwood; Lucie Delemotte; Erik Lindahl; Ulrich Zachariae; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; GPCR; G protein-coupled receptors; Molecular Dynamics; MD; Enhanced Sampling; beta2 adrenergic receptor; beta2; Biological Physics; Biologisk fysik;

    Sammanfattning : Proteins are large biomolecules that carry out specific functions within living organisms. Understanding how proteins function is a massive scientific challenge with a wide area of applications. In particular, by controlling protein function we may develop therapies for many diseases. 2. 2. Common variants in genes regulating free fatty acid metabolism and risk of type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease

    Författare :Martin Carlsson; Malmö Institutionen för kliniska vetenskaper; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; cardiovascular disease; free fatty acids; genetics; UCP1; beta3-adrenergic receptor; beta2-adrenergic receptor; type 2 diabetes mellitus; FABP2; stroke; Endocrinology; secreting systems; diabetology; Endokrinologi; sekretion; diabetologi;

    Sammanfattning : Abstract The present study evaluated genetic and metabolic factors influencing the risk for type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease (CVD) with special reference to increased concentrations of free fatty acids (FFA) in 1174 Swedish diabetic and nondiabetic subjects. Common polymorphisms in the fatty acid binding protein 2 (FABP2), the B2-adrenergic receptor (B2-AR), the B3 -adrenergic receptor (B3-AR) and the uncoupling protein 1 (UCP-1) genes were related to anthropometric and metabolic variables. 3. 3. Genetic and immunological control of human myasthenia gravis

    Författare :Xiaoyan Zhao; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Myasthenia Gravis MG ; beta2-adrenergic receptor beta2-AR ; CCR2; CCR5; cytolytic T lymphocyte-associated antigen-4 CTLA-4 ; OX40;

    Sammanfattning : Myasthenia gravis (MG) is a classical autoimmune disease characterized by muscle weakness due to an immune attack against the nicotinic acetylcholine receptor (AChR) on the post-synaptic membrane of the neuromuscular junction. Because of the involvement of multiple factors in the disease, the overall aims of this thesis were to uncover the regulation of candidate genes and the possible cellular mechanisms involved in the immuno-regulation of human MG.
