16. Genetic polymorphism of xenobiotic metabolising enzymes : implications for interindividual and interethnic differences in drug metabolism and cancer susceptibility
Sammanfattning : Genetic factors are of importance for interindividual and interethnic differences in drug response and cancer susceptibility. In the present investigation the role of genetic polymorphism in the cytochromes P450 CYPIAI, CYP2C19, CYP2D6, CYP2EI as well as in glutathione S-transferase Ml (GSTMI) and microsomal epoxide hydrolase (mEH) for differences in drug response and cancer susceptibility has been investigated in various ethnic populations. 17. Bioactivation and binding of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in blood vessel endothelia
Sammanfattning : Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are widespread environmental pollutants formed by incomplete combustion of organic materials such as fossil fuels and wood. Experimental and epidemiological studies indicate that PAHs may be involved in the development of cardiovascular disease. LÄS MER
18. Factors Influencing the Yield of Mutations Induced by Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons in Mammalian Cells
Sammanfattning : Environmental contaminants are ubiquitously present in the urban environment, this has the implication that humans are exposed to toxic and carcinogenic chemicals. Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH) are one type of environmental contaminants, which are produced by combustion of organic compounds. LÄS MER
19. Studies on hepatic glutathione transferases from rat and man : 1. A kinetic mechanism for glutathione transferase A from rat liver. 2. Transferase µ, a new form of glutathione transferase in human liver
Sammanfattning : This study of glutathione transferases was undertaken to achieve a better understanding of the catalytic and molecular properties of various isozymes of this group of drug-metabolizing enzymes. The steady-state kinetics of purified glutathione transferase A from rat liver with glutathione (GSH) and 1,2-dichloro- 4-nitrobenzene as substrates, did not follow a simple Michaelis- Menten equation. 20. Gill EROD Activity in Fish : A Biomarker for Waterborne Ah-receptor Agonists
Sammanfattning : Induction of the cytochrome P450(CYP)1A protein and the connected increase in 7-ethoxyresorufin O-deethylase (EROD) activity are common biomarkers in fish. Enhanced activity of this protein signals exposure to Ah-receptor agonists such as chlorinated dioxins, co-planar polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) and certain polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs).
