1. The mode of action of the radiosensitizing analogs metoclopramide and nicotinamide
Sammanfattning : This thesis provides the first attempt to study the nicotinamides and benzamides from a mode of action point of veiw. Understanding the effects on DNA repair, cell cycle control (proliferation) and cell death from these agents and in combination with ionizing radiation, provides a new opportunity to logically develop better approaches to sensitize already existing therapies via for example induction of apoptosis or inhibition of DNA repair. 3. In vivo quantification of extrastriatal dopamine D2 receptors in the human brain
Sammanfattning : The dopamine D2 receptor subtype attracts considerable attention in research on the patophysiology and drug treatment of several neuropsychiatric disorders, such as schizophrenia and Parkinson's disease. The brain imaging technology Positron Emission Tomography (PET) has since long allowed for reliable quantification of the high density of dopamine D2 receptors in large brain structures such as the neostriatum. 4. Reactivity and Selectivity Studies in Iridium-Catalyzed Asymmetric Hydrogenation
Sammanfattning : Transition-metal catalyzed stereoselective hydrogenation constitutes an indispensable method for the preparation of chiral molecules. The work in this thesis describes the development of efficient catalytic asymmetric hydrogenations with a focus on the elucidation of reactivity patterns and chemoselectivity in hydrogenations. 5. Catecholaminergic neurotransmission in heart and brain : development of tracers for positron emission tomography
Sammanfattning : The catecholamines norepinephrine and its biosynthetic precursor dopamine are two principal neurotransmitters in the human central nervous system (CNS). Moreover, norepinephrine is a major transmitter substance in the peripheral, autonomic nervous system. LÄS MER
