  1. 1. Microbenthos under Pressure : Impacts of human activities on bacteria and meiofauna communities in Baltic soft sediments

    Författare :Sven Iburg; Francisco J. A. Nascimento; Owen Wangensteen; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; soft sediments; benthic ecosystems; anthropogenic disturbance; contamination; recreational boating; bottom trawling; meiofauna; bacteria; metabarcoding; Baltic Sea; mjuka sediment; bentiska ekosystem; antropogenisk påverkan; förorening; fritidsbåtar; bottentrålning; meiofauna; bakterier; metabarcoding; Östersjön; marin ekologi; Marine Ecology;

    Sammanfattning : The marine benthic zone is one of the largest habitats on the planet, harbouring a large diversity of life that underpin many important ecological processes. However, these habitats have been under growing stress from human activities, profoundly altering their living communities. LÄS MER

  2. 2. DISCO - Drivers and Impacts of Coastal Ocean Acidification

    Författare :Laurie Charrieau; Kvartärgeologi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Coastal ocean acidification; Foraminifera; Environmental changes; pH; Salinity;

    Sammanfattning : Ocean acidification, mainly attributed to the increasing anthropogenic CO2 in the atmosphere, is characterised by a lowering pH together with a shift in the sea water carbonate chemistry toward lower concentration of carbonate ions. On the coasts, where the environmental variability is high due to natural and human impacts, ocean acidification mainly affects the frequency, magnitude, and duration of lower pH and lower calcium carbonate saturation events. 3. 3. Magnetic properties of magnetosomal greigite and factors influencing its occurrence and preservation in Baltic Sea Littorina sediments

    Författare :Maja Reinholdsson; Kvartärgeologi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Baltic Sea; deep basins; mineral magnetic properties; magnetotactic bacteria; magnetosomal greigite; laminated sapropels; organic carbon; geochemistry.;

    Sammanfattning : The Baltic Sea is one of the world’s largest brackish water environments and is today suffering from, for example, eutrophication, spreading hypoxia, accumulations of contaminants and invasive organisms. These problems exist due to a combination of natural features that makes the Baltic Sea a sensitive ecosystem (such as long water residence time, limited water exchange, large catchment area), and anthropogenic pressures on land, (such as agriculture and land-use changes, large human populations and industries) and in the sea (such as transport, fishing and bottom-trawling).
