1. Quantifying the Seismic Response of Underground Structures via Seismic Full Waveform Inversion : Experiences from Case Studies and Synthetic Benchmarks
Sammanfattning : Seismic full waveform inversion (waveform tomography) is a method to reconstruct the underground velocity field in high resolution using seismic data. The method was first introduced during the 1980’s and became computationally feasible during the late 1990’s when the method was implemented in the frequency domain. LÄS MER
2. Modelling the terrestrial carbon cycle – drivers, benchmarks, and model-data fusion
Sammanfattning : The terrestrial ecosystem sequesters about one-third of anthropogenic emissions each year, thereby providing a critical ecosystem service that slows the rate of increase of atmospheric carbon dioxide and helps mitigate climate change. Observed atmospheric carbon dioxide concentrations exhibit a large inter-annual variability which is considered to be caused primarily by the response of the terrestrial ecosystem to climate change and anthropogenic activity. 3. Nuclear data uncertainty propagation for a lead-cooled fast reactor: Combining TMC with criticality benchmarks for improved accuracy
Sammanfattning : For the successful deployment of advanced nuclear systems and for optimization of current reactor designs, high quality and accurate nuclear data are required. Before nuclear data can be used in applications, they are first evaluated, benchmarked against integral experiments and then converted into formats usable for applications. LÄS MER
4. Tools and annotations for variation
Sammanfattning : Since the finishing of the Human Genome Project, many next-generation (NGS) or high-throughput sequencing platforms have emerged. One of the applications of NGS technology, variant discovery, can serve as a basis for precision medicine. LÄS MER
5. Evaluating JavaScript Execution Behavior and Improving the Performance of Web Applications with Thread-Level Speculation
Sammanfattning : This thesis addresses two issues: (i) The execution behavior of JavaScript in established benchmarks and in real-world Web Applications and (ii) whether Thread-Level Speculation is a suitable technique for taking advantage of multicore systems in Web Applications written in JavaScript. The first key result is that JavaScript execution behavior by the benchmarks and the JavaScript execution behavior by the Web Applications differ in several important aspects. LÄS MER
