1. Polypeptide-Based Nanoscale Materials
Sammanfattning : Self-assembly has emerged as a promising technique for fabrication of novel hybrid materials and nanostructures. The work presented in this thesis has been focused on developing nanoscale materials based on synthetic de novo designed polypeptides. LÄS MER
2. Calcium regulation and functions of basic Helix-Loop-Helix transcription factors
Sammanfattning : The members of the ubiquitously expressed E-protein subfamily of basic Helix-Loop-Helix (bHLH) transcription factors, E12/E47, SEF2-1 and HEB, have important roles as regulators of gene expression in various differentiation processes, including lymphocyte development and myogenesis. In myogenesis, E-proteins are proposed to function as obligate heterodimer partners for members of the MyoD family of muscle-specific bHLH transcription factors. LÄS MER
3. Cooperative Reactive Sites in Designed Helix-Loop-Helix Polypeptide Catalysts
Sammanfattning : Designed polypeptides, which fold into helix-loop-helix motifs and dimerise to four-helix bundles have been used as scaffolds for the introduction of catalytic activity for the hydrolysis of p-nitrophenyl esters. The reactive sites were based on the reactivity of histidine, and two His residues separated by four residues in the sequence was shown to be the minimal reactive site for the efficient hydrolysis of nitrophenyl esters. 4. Regulation and functions of basic helix-loop-helix transcription factors in neuroblastoma cells
Sammanfattning : Neuroblastoma is a childhood tumor derived from primordial neural crest cells. The tumor cells exhibit a phenotype similar to that of developing neuroblasts, which indicates that the tumor arises due to perturbed differentiation of the sympathetic nervous system. LÄS MER
5. The immunoglobulin heavy chain 3ʼ enhancer : coupling of basic-Helix-Loop-Helix proteins to the regulation of enhancer function
Sammanfattning : During B lymphocyte development, the transcriptional activity of the IgH locus is subject to spatial and temporal changes. One cis-control element, the IgH 3' enhancer, has been implicated in regulating functional events in late B cell development. LÄS MER
