  1. 21. Psychotic symptoms and paranoid ideation in the non-demented elderly. A population study on prevalence, incidence, and associated factors, and their relationship to cognitive functioning and prognosis

    Författare :Svante Östling; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :hallucinations; delusions; psychotic symptoms; paranoid ideation; incidence; prevalence; psychometric tests; computed tomography; basal ganglia calcification; population study; elderly;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Psychotic symptoms and paranoid ideation are not commonly reported in non-demented elderly, and may be underrated in traditional epidemiological studies.Aims: The aims of this study are to characterize the incidence and prevalence of psychotic symptoms and paranoid ideation and associated factors; the relationship between neuropsychological performance and psychotic symptoms and paranoid ideation and the prognosis of psychotic symptoms and paranoid ideation in non-demented elderly. 2. 22. Circuit-level analyses of cortico-basal ganglia-thalamic networks. Effects of dopamine dysregulation and experience dependent plasticity

    Författare :Nedjeljka Ivica; Integrativ neurofysiologi; []
    Nyckelord :systems neurophysiology; multi-channel recording; motor control; Parkinson s disease; oscillations; dyskinesia; plasticity;

    Sammanfattning : The cortico-basal ganglia-thalamic (CBT) circuit is thought to be involved in control of voluntary and goal-directed movements and action selection. Dopamine is known to play a crucial role in this circuit and regulating its activity. LÄS MER

  3. 23. Molecular mechanisms underlying the actions of psychoactive drugs in the basal ganglia : focus on cannabinoids and morphine

    Författare :Anders Borgkvist; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis is centered on the identification of the molecular mechanisms involved in the psychomotor effects of cannabinoids and morphine. These drugs share the ability of acting at the level of the basal ganglia, a group of subcortical structures involved in the control of locomotion, as well as in cognitive and motivational aspects of motor function. 4. 24. The circuit and synaptic organization of the basal ganglia output : mechanistic insights on movement disorders and action control

    Författare :Giacomo Sitzia; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Understanding the neural circuitry underlying movement is a neuroscientific challenge that promises to help refining currently available treatments for movement disorders. Key structures for movement and action control are the basal ganglia nuclei, whose complexity has only just started to be resolved. LÄS MER

  5. 25. Characterization of neuropeptide, monoamine, and amino acid release in the basal ganglia of the rat : neuronal dependence and reciprocal interactions

    Författare :Zhi-Bing You; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :amino acids cholecystokinin dopamine dynorphin microdialysis morphineneostriatum rat substantia nigra.;

    Sammanfattning : Functional interactions in the basal ganglia of rats were characterized with in vivomicrodialysis. The study was mainly focused on the dynorphin and cholecystokinin (CCK) systems. The extracellular levels of both dynorphin B and CCK were found in the pM range inthe neostriatum and substantia nigra under basal conditions. LÄS MER
