1. Magnetism in Band Gap Engineered Sputtered MgxZn(1-x)O Thin Films
Sammanfattning : This dissertation presents a comprehensive study of the intrinsic room temperature ferromagnetism, RTFM, in technologically important thin films of ZnO, MgO, Mg@ZnO, the so-called d0–magnets that do not contain any intrinsic magnetic elements. We also present the first report on magnetism in Mn doped MgO films fabricated by dc magnetron sputtering. LÄS MER
2. Computational Material Design : Diluted Magnetic Semiconductors for Spintronics
Sammanfattning : The present thesis deals with the application of ab-initio electronic structure calculations based on density functional theory for material design. The correlation between magnetic properties and electronic structures has been investigated in detail for diluted magnetic semiconductors (DMS), which have promising application for spintronics devices. 3. Magnetotransport Studies of Mn Ion-Implanted Nanowires
Sammanfattning : This thesis focuses on the magnetotransport properties of highly Mn-doped crystalline GaAs nanowires. The GaAs nanowires were first grown by metal-organic vapor phase epitaxy from gold seed particles, and subsequently implanted with Mn ions under varying conditions, e.g., ion fluence and acceleration voltage. 4. Magnetotransport Measurements of Ni Thin Films
Sammanfattning : This thesis presents transverse magnetoresistance (MR) and Hall resistivity measurements of nickel thin films at temperatures between 280 and 455 K and pressures up to 6 GPa. An experimental system was developed for conducting precise magnetotransport measurements using the current reversal and van der Pauw techniques in combination with a 10 T superconducting magnet. 5. Detailed photoemission studies of the prototype diluted magnetic semiconductor (Ga,Mn)As
Sammanfattning : Magnetic semiconductors are materials that combine the key features needed in information technology, namely magnetism and controllable charge transport. The prospects of integrating these properties and of using the spin as informa-tion carrier have motivated large efforts to produce such materials for imple-mentation in future spin-based electronics.
