  1. 6. Urinary tract infections in primary health care in northern Sweden : epidemiological, bacteriological and clinical aspects

    Författare :Sven Ferry; Bengt Mattsson; Lars Burman; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Urinary tract infection UTI ; primary health care PHC ; epidemiology; clinical presentation; bacteriuria diagnosis; bacteriology; drug resistance; therapy;

    Sammanfattning : The epidemiology of urinary tract infection (UTI) in the population of Vännäs (8 000 inhabitants) was studied during one year. The annual incidence increased from 0.5% in the first decade of life to more than 10% in the age group 90-100 years. LÄS MER

  2. 7. The role of P fimbriae for Escherichia coli establishment and mucosal inflammation in the human urinary tract

    Författare :Björn Wullt; immunologi och glykobiologi - MIG Avdelningen för mikrobiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; bacteriology; Microbiology; asymptomatic bacteriuria; urinary tract infections; deliberate colonization; E. coli 83972; P-fimbriae; Mucosal host response; IL-6; IL-8; neutrophils; regulation.; GFP; virology; mycology; Mikrobiologi; bakteriologi; virologi; mykologi;

    Sammanfattning : Bacterial adhesion to the bladder mucosa is a critical step for the establishment of Escherichia coli bacteriuria. The P-fimbriae, encoded by the pap gene cluster, are considered as virulence factors but the mechanisms have been debated. This study defined the roles for P fimbriation during the early colonization of the human urinary tract. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Escherichia coli Fimbriae, Bacterial Persistence and Host Response Induction in the Human Urinary Tract

    Författare :Göran Bergsten; immunologi och glykobiologi - MIG Avdelningen för mikrobiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; mykologi; virologi; bakteriologi; Mikrobiologi; mycology; virology; bacteriology; Microbiology; IL-8; IL-6; neutrophils; GFP; mucosal host response; Type 1 fimbriae; P fimbriae; adherence; virulence factors; regulation; deliberate colonisation; Escherichia coli 83972; Urinary tract infection; asymptomatic bacteriuria;

    Sammanfattning : Urinary tract infections (UTI) are among the most common bacterial infections in humans. Symptomatic UTIs may be acute, recurrent or chronic but the most frequent form of UTI is asymptomatic bacteruria (ABU). In ABU, the mucosa remains inert, despite the presence of large bacterial numbers in urine. LÄS MER

  4. 9. Influence of host genetics on innate immunity and susceptibility to urinary tract infection

    Författare :Bryndis Ragnarsdottir; immunologi och glykobiologi - MIG Avdelningen för mikrobiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; neutrophils; IRF3; Innate Immunity; urinary tract infections; acute pyelonephritis; asymptomatic bacteriuria; Toll-like receptor 4; CXCR1; TLR4 adaptors; polymorphisms;

    Sammanfattning : It has been known for a long time that the clinical manifestations of urinary tract infections (UTI) differ markedly between individuals, ranging from a sometimes beneficial, asymptomatic state to life threatening infections. This variability in clinical manifestation can be explained in part by the arsenal of virulence factors of the bacteria but the predisposition of the patient is equally important. LÄS MER

  5. 10. Molecular determinants of disease severity in urinary tract infection

    Författare :Ines Ambite; immunologi och glykobiologi - MIG Avdelningen för mikrobiologi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Asymptomatic bacteriuria; urinary tract infection; acute pyelonephritis; cystitis; Escherichia coli 83972; host response; NlpD; RNA Polymerase II; transcription regulation; inflammasome; Il-1β; ASC; NLRP-3; hyper-inflammatory disorder; MMP-7; IL-1RA; genetic susceptibility; IRF-7; siRNA therapy; P fimbriae; type 1 fimbriae;

    Sammanfattning : In the urinary tract, Escherichia coli infection may result in life-threatening disease, or asymptomatic bacterial carriage, comparable to bacterial commensalism in the gut. Pathogenic strains trigger a disease provoking host response which differs depending on the infected organ. LÄS MER
