  1. 6. Surgical Site Infections in Dermatologic Surgery- Clinical, diagnostic, and pathogenic aspects

    Författare :Karim Saleh; Lund Dermatologi och venereologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Surgical site infections SSIs ; dermatologic surgery; full-thickness skin grafting; acute wounds; wound healing; microbiome; diagnostics; prevention; pathogenesis;

    Sammanfattning : Surgical site infections (SSIs) in dermatologic surge- ry contribute to unwanted healthcare costs and are complications that cause su ering in patients. The aim of this thesis was to explore clinical, diagnos- tic, and pathogenic aspects of SSIs in dermatologic surgery.In study I, we examined bacterial dynamics during normal wound healing and SSIs. 2. 7. Genetic diversity of the heat labile (LT) and heat stable (ST) toxins of human enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli (ETEC): New insights into polymorphism, regulation, and gene transcription

    Författare :Enrique Joffre; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; ETEC; diversity; bacterial enterotoxins; polymorphism; gene regulation; gene transcription; Diarrhoeal disease; bacterial infection;

    Sammanfattning : Infection with enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli (ETEC) is a leading cause of diarrhea in children in developing countries and travelers to endemic regions. ETEC is a diverse pathogen, with a wide range of virulence factors including enterotoxins and more than 25 identified colonization factors (CFs). LÄS MER

  3. 8. Role of YopE and LcrH in effector translocation, HeLa cell cytotoxicity and virulence

    Författare :Margareta Aili; Roland Rosqvist; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Yersinia pseudotuberculosis; bacterial pathogenesis; YopE; LcrH; virulence; effector translocation; type III secretion; regulation; Cell and molecular biology; Cell- och molekylärbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : In order to establish an extra-cellular infection the gram-negative bacteria Yersinia pseudotuberculosis uses a type III secretion system (T3SS) to translocate a set of anti-host effectors into eukaryotic cells. The toxins disrupt signalling pathways important for phagocytosis, cytokine production and cell survival. LÄS MER

  4. 9. Virulence mechanisms of pathogenic Yersinia : aspects of type III secretion and twin arginine translocation

    Författare :Moa Lavander; Åke Forsberg; George Salmond; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Molecular biology; Yersinia pestis; Yersinia pseudotuberculosis; bacterial pathogenesis; type III secretion; twin arginine translocation; virulence mechanisms; YscU; YscP; YscF; Molekylärbiologi; Molecular biology; Molekylärbiologi; molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology;

    Sammanfattning : The pathogenic bacteria Yersinia pestis and Y. pseudotuberculosis are related to the degree where the former is considered a subspecies of the latter, and still they cause disease of little resemblance in humans. Y. pestis is the causative agent of lethal bubonic and pneumonic plague, while Y. LÄS MER

  5. 10. The role of the Type IV pili system in the virulence of Francisella tularensis

    Författare :Emelie Salomonsson; Åke Forsberg; Jean-Pierre Gorvel; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Francisella tularensis; tularemia; bacterial pathogenesis; Type IV pili; Type II secretion; Neisseria gonorrhoeae; PilA; RD18; RD19; Molecular biology; Molekylärbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Francisella tularensis is a Gram-negative intracellular pathogen causing the zoonotic disease tularemia. F. tularensis can be found almost all over the world and has been recovered from several animal species, even though the natural reservoir of the bacterium and parts of its life cycle are still unknown.
