  1. 6. The Niches of Bacterial Populations in Productive Waters : Examples from Coastal Waters and Four Eutrophic Lakes

    Författare :Alexander Eiler; Stefan Bertilsson; Lars J. Tranvik; Janet Jansson; Katherine McMahon; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ecology; diversity; 16S rRNA; phytoplankton; bloom; pathogen; carbon cycle; Ekologi;

    Sammanfattning : Recent research in microbial ecology has focused on how aquatic bacterial communities are assembled. Only a few of these studies follow a “Gleasonian” approach where the roles of single bacterial populations are in focus. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Functional and structural characterizations of phytoplankton-bacteria interactions in response to environmental challenges

    Författare :Eva Sörenson; Catherine Legrand; Elin Lindehoff; Jarone Pinhassi; Sonya Dyhrman; Linnéuniversitetet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Interactions; phytoplankton; microalgae; bacteria; communities; aquatic; diversity; functions; structure; species-specific; microbiome; core microbiome; response diversity; resilience; resource partitioning; competition; coexistence; amplicon sequencing; metatranscriptome; Akvatisk ekologi; Aquatic Ecology; Mikrobiologi; Microbiology;

    Sammanfattning : Microorganisms, such as phytoplankton and bacteria, make up ≈70% of aquatic biomass and contribute 50-85% of the oxygen in Earth’s atmosphere. The microbial loop concept and the discovery of the large diversity in microbial communities acknowledge that biotic interactions between microorganisms in addition to resource competition enable the recycling of energy and nutrients in aquatic food webs. 4. 9. Links Between Structure and Function of Heterotrophic Aquatic Bacterial Communities

    Författare :Silke Langenheder; Lars Tranvik; Eva Lindström; David Kirchman; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ecology; heterotrophic bacteria; dissolved organic matter; diversity; community composition; ecosystem functioning; salinity; Ekologi; Terrestrial; freshwater and marine ecology; Terrestisk; limnisk och marin ekologi;

    Sammanfattning : Heterotrophic bacteria utilize dissolved organic matter, and the carbon flow through an ecosystem depends on the fractions of the utilized carbon that is either respired or transferred to higher trophic levels. The major aim this thesis is to investigate 1) the relationship between composition and functioning in heterotrophic bacterioplankton communities and 2) the influence of environmental conditions on both parameters. 5. 10. Effect of environmental factors on bacterioplankton community composition, diversity and functionality

    Författare :Johanna Sjöstedt; Lasse Riemann; Silke Langenheder; Linnéuniversitetet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; marine microbiology; bacterioplankton; community composition; diversity; functionality; environmental factors; disturbance; distribution; Mikrobiologi; Microbiology; Akvatisk ekologi; Aquatic Ecology;

    Sammanfattning : The ocean covers more than 70 % of the Earth surface and represents the largest ecosystem on Earth. Bacteria are an important part of the marine food web not only in remineralisation but also since they utilize dissolved organic matter (DOM) and make the energy available to higher trophic levels.
