21. Bacterioplankton population dynamics in a changing ocean
Sammanfattning : Bacterioplankton is characterized by high diversity, short generation times and rapid turnover. Despite their small size, these numerous microorganisms are a fundamental piece of aquatic ecosystems by channeling carbon to higher trophic levels through dissolved organic matter utilization. 22. Factors influencing the biogeography of bacteria in fresh waters - a metacommunity approach
Sammanfattning : One of ecology’s primary goals is to comprehend biodiversity and its patterns of distribution over space and time. Since microorganisms play a pivotal role in key ecological processes, the diversity of microbial communities may have important implications for the stability and functioning of Earth’s ecosystems. 23. Environmental filtering of bacteria in low productivity habitats
Sammanfattning : Microbes fulfill important ecosystem functions by contributing as drivers of global nutrient cycles. Their distribution patterns are mainly controlled by environmental heterogeneities. So far, little is known about the mode of action of particular environmental drivers on the microbiota, particularly in low productivity habitats. LÄS MER
24. Molecular analysis of the oral microbiota of dental diseases
Sammanfattning : Traditionally, bacterial culture has been used for bacterial detection, allowing study of living microorganisms. Molecular methods are rapid and allow simultaneous identification of numerous species and uncultivated phylotypes. LÄS MER
25. Seagrasses and their epiphytes : Characterization of abundance and productivity in tropical seagrass beds
Sammanfattning : Seagrass beds cover large intertidal and subtidal areas in coastal zones around the world and they are subjected to a wide variety of anthropogenic influences, such as nutrient enrichment due to sewage seepage. This study was undertaken to address specific questions focusing on whether near shore tropical seagrasses that receive a constant influx of groundwater nutrient inputs, would exhibit a higher productivity and to what extent epiphytic algae reflect the impacts of nutrient inputs.
