  1. 21. Bacterioplankton population dynamics in a changing ocean

    Författare :Markus V. Lindh; Jarone Pinhassi; Pierre Galand; Linnéuniversitetet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; marine microbiology; ecology; bacterioplankton; community composition; diversity; seasonality; biogeography; bimodal; metapopulation; community functioning; climate change; environmental disturbance;

    Sammanfattning : Bacterioplankton is characterized by high diversity, short generation times and rapid turnover. Despite their small size, these numerous microorganisms are a fundamental piece of aquatic ecosystems by channeling carbon to higher trophic levels through dissolved organic matter utilization. 2. 22. Factors influencing the biogeography of bacteria in fresh waters - a metacommunity approach

    Författare :Jürg Brendan Logue; Eva S. Lindström; Silke Langenheder; Lars Tranvik; Byron Crump; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; bacteria; diversity; richness; community composition; dispersal; metacommunity; fresh water; biogeography; Freshwater ecology; Limnisk ekologi; Microbiology; Mikrobiologi; Biologi med inriktning mot limnologi; Biology with specialization in Limnology;

    Sammanfattning : One of ecology’s primary goals is to comprehend biodiversity and its patterns of distribution over space and time. Since microorganisms play a pivotal role in key ecological processes, the diversity of microbial communities may have important implications for the stability and functioning of Earth’s ecosystems. 3. 23. Environmental filtering of bacteria in low productivity habitats

    Författare :Inga Richert; Stefan Bertilsson; Annelie Wendeberg; Lise Øvreås; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; bacteria; environmental filtering; diversity; ecosystem service; hydrocarbon utilization; Southern Ocean; sediment; Biologi med inriktning mot mikrobiologi; Biology with specialization in Microbiology;

    Sammanfattning : Microbes fulfill important ecosystem functions by contributing as drivers of global nutrient cycles. Their distribution patterns are mainly controlled by environmental heterogeneities. So far, little is known about the mode of action of particular environmental drivers on the microbiota, particularly in low productivity habitats. LÄS MER

  4. 24. Molecular analysis of the oral microbiota of dental diseases

    Författare :Eleni Kanasi; Sirkka Asikainen; Anne CR Tanner; Ingegerd Johansson; Gunnar Dahlén; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; early childhood caries; early periodontitis; 16S rDNA cloning and sequencing; whole genomic DNA probes; oligonucleotide DNA probes; PCR; diversity; molecular; aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans; serotypes; Oral microbiology; Oral mikrobiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Traditionally, bacterial culture has been used for bacterial detection, allowing study of living microorganisms. Molecular methods are rapid and allow simultaneous identification of numerous species and uncultivated phylotypes. LÄS MER

  5. 25. Seagrasses and their epiphytes : Characterization of abundance and productivity in tropical seagrass beds

    Författare :Jacqueline Uku; Mats Björk; Beatriz Diez; Evamaria Koch; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Seagrass; epiphytes; cyanobacteria; prokaryotes; diversity; productivity; carbon utilization; buffer sensitivity; Biology; Biologi;

    Sammanfattning : Seagrass beds cover large intertidal and subtidal areas in coastal zones around the world and they are subjected to a wide variety of anthropogenic influences, such as nutrient enrichment due to sewage seepage. This study was undertaken to address specific questions focusing on whether near shore tropical seagrasses that receive a constant influx of groundwater nutrient inputs, would exhibit a higher productivity and to what extent epiphytic algae reflect the impacts of nutrient inputs.
