11. Characterization of the Intestinal Microbiota by DNA-Based Methods
Sammanfattning : The intestinal flora and the bacteria found in the extraintestinal sites were studied in liver injury rats, with or without Lactobacillus plantarum 299v pre-treatment. The dominating intestinal flora and translocating bacteria were typed by RAPD and identified by 16S rDNA sequencing. LÄS MER
12. The Baltic Sea from the present to future : microbial carbon & nutrient cycling in a changing climate
Sammanfattning : Climate Change is caused by the accelerated increase of anthropogenic greenhousegas emissions to the atmosphere and affects all ecosystems on our planet. A resultof higher CO2 uptake by the oceans as well as an increase of heat trapped in theatmosphere leads to, for example acidification, stratification, sea-level rise, oxygenloss, and temperature increase of the earth’s waterbodies. 13. Molecular epidemiology of coagulase-negative staphylococci in hospitals and in the community
Sammanfattning : Background Coagulase-negative staphylococci (CoNS) and in particular Staphylococcus epidermidis have emerged as major pathogens primarily causing nosocomial infections in patients with indwelling medical devices. These infections are often caused by multidrug-resistant strains of S. epidermidis (MDRSE). LÄS MER
14. The Gut Bacterial Flora - Focus on Early Life and Physiological Traits
Sammanfattning : The gastrointestinal tract of the foetus is considered sterile but during vaginal birth the neonate comes into contact with bacteria from the maternal vaginal and intestinal microbiota. The main focus of this doctoral thesis was to elucidate the initial bacterial ecosystem in newborns and to relate microbial perturbations to physiological traits. LÄS MER
15. Diversity of soil microbial communities: In the perspective of targeting functional genes
Sammanfattning : Abstract Intensive land use in agriculture can lead to higher loss of biodiversity in soils and subsequently carbon due to tillage and application of pesticides and fertilizers. The microbial communities are pivotal to ecosystem processes in soil such as nutrient cycling, soil formation and plant productivity and thus are affected by land use. LÄS MER
