1. Electric DNA arrays for determination of pathogenic Bacillus cereus
Sammanfattning : Silicon-based electric chip arrays were developed for characterization of Bacillus cereus with respect to the capacity to produce toxins involved in food poisoning and foodborne infections. Bacteria of the B. cereus group contain different sets of four toxins encoded by eight genes. LÄS MER
2. Bacillus Cereus. Adhesion Ability to Biological and Non-Biological Surfaces, Enterotoxins, Characterization
Sammanfattning : The organism investigated in this thesis was Bacillus cereus, which is important as a food spoilage organism and as a pathogen. The adhesion of endospores to and the removal of endospores from siliconized glass surfaces were investigated to increase the knowledge of adhesion mechanisms and to improve the removal of endospores from surfaces. 3. Bacteriological Hygiene in the Production of Pasteurised Milk
Sammanfattning : Critical contamination sites and sources for the Gram-negative psychrotrophs (GNP) of the taxa Pseudomonas, Enterobacteriaceae and Aeromonas, and the Gram-positive spore-forming (GPS) species Bacillus cereus, have been traced in the production line of pasteurised milk. Samples of raw and pasteurised milk from different sampling sites along the line were collected. LÄS MER
4. Electric DNA chips for determination of pathogenic microorganisms
Sammanfattning : Silicon-based electric DNA chip arrays were utilized to fast identify pathogenic microorganisms with respect to the capacity to produce toxins involved in foodborne poisoning and infections. Bacteria of the B. cereus and the enterohemorrhagic E. LÄS MER
5. Insect immunity : fractionation and characterization of some immune proteins induced by primary infections of giant silk moth pupae
Sammanfattning : A potent antibacterial activity in hemolymph of giant silk moth pupae is demonstrated. The system is inducible and RNA and protein synthesis are needed for the expression of the activity. Both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria were found to be susceptible. The activities could be selectively inhibited, indicating a multicomponent system. LÄS MER
