  1. 1. Experimental studies in jet flows and zero pressure-gradient turbulent boundary layers

    Författare :Ramis Örlü; P. Henrik Alfredsson; Tim B. Nickels; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Axisymmetric jet; swirling jet; coaxial jet; heated jet; zero pressuregradient turbulent boundary layer; wall-bounded turbulent flows; overlap region; passive scalar mixing; hot-wire anemometry; spatial resolution.; Fluid mechanics; Strömningsmekanik;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with the description and development of two classical turbulent shear flows, namely free jet and flat plate turbulent boundary layer flows. In both cases new experimental data has been obtained and in the latter case comparisons are also made with data obtained from data bases, both of experimental and numerical origin. LÄS MER

  2. 2. The Axisymmetric Turbulent Jet

    Författare :Stephan Gamard; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis aims at understanding the downstream evolution of the most energetic features of a turbulent axisymmetric jet. The study was conducted from 2 to 69 diameters downstream, using 3 different jet exit diameters with air flowing at a wide range of velocities to ensure a reasonable span of Reynolds numbers, while still keeping it in a high range, from 40,000 to 156,700. 3. 3. Turbulent jets in confined spaces : application in mixing ventilation: experimental and numerical studies

    Författare :Taghi Karimipanah; Mats Sandberg; H. A. Awbi; Högskolan i Gävle; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; turbulent; wall jet; impinging jet; free jet; confinement effect; pressure; throw; experimental; numerical; corner; momentum; mixing ventilation;

    Sammanfattning : The basis of mixing ventilation is the airflow supply to the room by means of jets initiatedfrom the ventilation diffusers. To avoid the draught problem, the design of mixing ventilationmakes uses the throw term, which is defined as the distance to the supply air terminal inwhich the jet centreline mean velocity is decreased to a given value. 4. 4. Turbulence Measurements in a Natural Convection Boundary Layer and a Swirling Jet

    Författare :Abolfazl Shiri; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; swirl; constant current bridge; high Rayleigh number; natural convection; Jet; cold-wire thermometry; vertical cylinder; laser Doppler anemometry; turbulent boundary layers;

    Sammanfattning : Two sets of experimental measurement were carried out on an axisymmetric swirling jet flow and a natural convection boundary layer. In the first experiment, the far field of an incompressible swirling jet, discharged into a quiescent ambient has been studied using laser Doppler anemometry. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Spatial Decompositions of a Fully-developed Turbulent Round Jet Sampled with Particle Image Velocimetry

    Författare :Maja Wänström; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; proper orthogonal decomposition; axisymmetric turbulent jet; PIV; spatial spectral analysis; equilibrium similarity;

    Sammanfattning : Spatial decompositions of the turbulence in a far, axisymmetric jet at exit Reynolds number of 20, 000 have been performed. Equilibrium similaritytheory applied to the two-point Reynolds stresses has shown that the turbulence statistics in the far, fully developed region of an axisymmetric jet should be independent of origin in the streamwise direction when evaluated on the similarity coordinates system.
