1. Axis Fractures in Elderly : Epidemiology and Treatment related outcome
Sammanfattning : Background: Axis fractures are a common injury in the elderly population. Treatment is often complicated due to osteoporosis and patient comorbidity. Knowledge of the incidence of these fractures, as well as their treatment, outcome and mortality rate, will improve knowledge and decision-making processes for this fragile group of patients. LÄS MER
2. Deformation and Fracture Behavior of Transparent Wood-Polymer Biocomposites
Sammanfattning : Transparent wood-polymer biocomposites (TWPBs) are interesting wood-based materials with a unique combination of optical transmittance and mechanical properties. The wood substrate is delignified (removal of lignin) while the wood microstructure is preserved. LÄS MER
3. Acute confusional state (delirium) : clinical studies in hip-fracture and stroke patients
Sammanfattning : Acute confusional state (ACS) or delirium according to DSM-III-R holds a central position in the medicine of old age. ACS is a common and sometimes the only symptom of diseases and medical complications in the elderly patient. LÄS MER
4. Epidemiology, Radiology and Histology of Atypical Femoral Fractures : Development of understanding
Sammanfattning : Bisphosphonates have been used successfully in the prevention of osteoporosis-related fractures for over two decades. Only recently an association between bisphosphonate use and femoral insufficiency fractures – atypical femoral fractures – has been found.Bone remodeling is necessary to maintain a healthy skeleton. 5. Analysis of transverse composite cross-ply laminates
Sammanfattning : Advanced polymer composites are commonly based on thin prepreg plies stacked at different angles to form a laminate. When the laminate is loaded, intralaminar transverse cracking in off-axis plies is one of the first damage modes. In the presented thesis, cross-ply laminates are used to study the transverse cracking phenomenon. LÄS MER
