  1. 6. Diagnosis of infection with Toxoplasma gondii in pregnant women, neonates and immunocompromised patients

    Författare :Eskild Petersen; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Infection with Toxoplasma gondii poses unique diagnostic problems like long-term persistence of specific IgM-antibodies, which makes it difficult to use the presence of Toxoplasma-specific IgM-antibodies alone as a sign of acute infection. The importance of determining the time of infection in pregnant women is also a unique diagnostic challenge in Toxoplasma diagnostics. LÄS MER

  2. 7. CD8+ T cell specificity in thymic selection and in the recognition of antigen

    Författare :Johan Sandberg; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :T cell; specificity; MHC class 1; selection; tolerance;

    Sammanfattning : Specificity mediated by the T cell receptor (TCR) is of fundamental importance for the ability of T cells to function, and regulate humoral immunity and effector mechanisms of the innate immune system. T cells recognize composite molecules consisting of products of the major histocompatibility complex (MHC) class I or class 11 loci, in complex with a short peptide fragment derived from endogenous or antigenic proteins. 3. 8. Pro- and anti-inflammatory regulation of β2 integrin signalling in human neutrophils

    Författare :Veronika Brodin Patcha; Eva Särndahl; Emmanuelle Caron; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; inflammation; neutrophils; signalling; integrins; Cell biology; Cellbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : The body is under constant attack from pathogens trying to slip by our immune defence. If the barrier is breached, invading pathogens enter the tissues and cause inflammation. During this process neutrophils, constituting the first line of defence, leave the bloodstream and seek out and kill the invading pathogens. LÄS MER

  4. 9. Targeting cytotoxic species in amyloid diseases

    Författare :Malin Lindhagen Persson; Anders Olofsson; Lars Tjernberg; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Alzheimer s disease; Amyloid-beta; transthyretin; FAP; amyloid; cytotoxic species; oligomers; medicinsk biokemi; Medical Biochemistry;

    Sammanfattning : Amyloid diseases are a world-wide problem causing great human suffer and large economical costs. Although amyloid deposits, a common denominator in all amyloid disorders, are detrimental to the surrounding tissue, there is a poor correlation between total amyloid burden and clinical symptoms. 5. 10. Factors influencing transferrin receptor-mediated brain delivery : Evaluating preclinical antibody-based proteins for PET imaging in Alzheimer’s disease

    Författare :Rebecca Faresjö Melander; Stina Syvänen; Dag Sehlin; Robert Thorne; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; brain delivery; bispecific antibody; transferrin receptor; Alzheimer s Disease; amyloid-beta; aging; single domain antibody; PET; Biofarmaci; Biopharmaceutics; Neurology; Neurologi; Molekylär medicin; Molecular Medicine; Biofarmaci; Biopharmaceutics;

    Sammanfattning : Antibody-based proteins targeting amyloid-beta (Aβ) could be used as radioligands in positron emission tomography (PET) to study Alzheimer’s disease (AD) pathology in the living brain. The prospective advantages of antibody-based PET are to detect pathology earlier, with higher sensitivity, and to evaluate treatment effects of emerging immunotherapies against Aβ. LÄS MER
