1. Some New Methods in Sialic Acid Chemistry
Sammanfattning : Gangliosides (G) are sialic acid-containing cell surface glycosphingolipids capable of forming lactones, i.e. inner esters. Some gangliosides are tumor-associated antigens, and they may serve as immunogens in their lactone form, where the latter is comparatively more abundant on the surface of malignant cells. LÄS MER
2. La negazione nell'italiano degli svedesi : sequenze acquisizionai e influssi translinguistici
Sammanfattning : This thesis concerns the development of negation in the Italian L2 of a group of Swedish adults who live in Italy and acquire the language by formal and spontaneous learning. Various negative expressions and the verbal system were studied in a longitudinal analysis of a corpus with 29 recordings of seven subjects. LÄS MER
3. Acyl-CoA thioesterases : auxiliary enzymes in peroxisomal lipid metabolism
Sammanfattning : Peroxisomes are small organelles essential for life, which carry out a variety of functions mostly related to lipid metabolism, including α- and β-oxidation as well as the first steps of plasmalogen biosynthesis. Peroxisomal β-oxidation metabolizes many different lipids including very long-chain fatty acids, dicarboxylic fatty acids, branched-chain fatty acids, eicosanoids and certain xenobiotic fatty acids. 4. Samarium(II)-mediated Reactions in Organic Synthesis - Method Development and Mechanistic Investigation
Sammanfattning : This thesis describes the development of methods using divalent samarium reagents in organic synthesis. The main focus is placed on functional group reductions, but reductive formation of carbon-carbon bonds has also been investigated. LÄS MER
5. Cooperative Breeding in the Southern Anteater-Chat : Sexual Disparity, Survival and Dispersal
Sammanfattning : Group-living sets the scene for complex social behaviours such as cooperative breeding, and exploring the factors that shape group-living is crucial in understanding these behaviours. This thesis explores the ecology of a population of the facultative cooperative breeding southern anteater-chat (Myrmecocichla formicivora), a group-living bird species endemic to southern Africa.
