  1. 1. Clinical and experimental studies of organ-specific autoimmune diseases : With special reference to Addison's disease and autoimmune hepatitis : by Gennet Gebre-Medhin

    Författare :Gennet Gebre-Medhin; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Medical sciences; Addison s Disease; replacement therapy; DHEA; autoimmune hepatitis; APS I; autoantigen; cytochrome P4501A2; aromatic L-amino acid decarboxylase; MEDICIN OCH VÅRD; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; Medicine; medicin;

    Sammanfattning : Organ-specific autoimmunity constitutes a large health problem, where both the clinical management and our understanding of the pathogenetic mechanisms need to improve. Women with Addison's disease have abnormally low levels of dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA), its sulphate ester (DHEA-S) and androgens relative to age, and many patients complain of physical and mental fatigue and low stress tolerance. 3. 3. Autoantibodies in healthy blood donors, rheumatic and autoimmune liver diseases

    Författare :Awais Ahmad; Christopher Sjöwall; Charlotte Dahle; Stergios Kechagias; Marco W.J. Schreuers; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Autoimmunity is a common phenomenon where the immune system recognises the body's own tissues. Autoimmunity can lead to disease if tissue damage occurs. Autoimmune diseases affect 5–10% of the global population and in many of these autoantibodies can be detected. The autoantibodies can be detected with several different methods. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Immune interactions with the liver

    Författare :Azza Karrar; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Liver sinusoid; endothelial cells; apoptosis; antibodies; liver immunity; biliary cells; autoimmune liver diseases; estrogen;

    Sammanfattning : The liver has an important role in the induction of immune tolerance and can be a target for immune mediated damage. The following studies are performed to address the role of liver sinusoidal endothelial cells (LSEC) in tolerance induction and to understand some of the mechanisms involved in the pathogenesis of primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC). 5. 5. Associations of type 2 diabetes mellitus with cancer and autoimmune diseases. A population-based epidemiological study in Sweden

    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Type 2 diabetes mellitus; cancer; autoimmune disease; cause of death; hazard ratio; standardized incidence ratio; survival; risk factor;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis aimed to search for epidemiological evidence supporting the associations of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) with cancer and autoimmune diseases (ADs) by analysing several Swedish national registries. T2DM shares risk factors with cancer, such as obesity, diet, stress, and physical inactivity. LÄS MER
