21. Allergy to laboratory animals : risk factors for development of allergy and methods for measuring airborne rodent allergens
Sammanfattning : Between 10-50% of workers exposed to laboratory animals, mainly rats or mice, develop laboratory animal allergy (LAA) with symptoms of rhinitis, conjuctivitis, asthma, or urticaria, and IgE against animal allergens. Symptoms often arise within the first years of animal work. Up to half of the symptomatic subjects develop asthma. LÄS MER
22. Immunological and inflammatory mechanisms in ocular allergy with special reference to vernal keratoconjunctivitis : clinical and experimental studies
Sammanfattning : Ocular allergy encompasses a wide range of conditions, most of which implicate IgE in the pathogenesis. In contrast to the benign nature of seasonal allergic conjunctivitis (SAC), the less common chronic eye diseases vernal and atopic keratoconjunctivitis (VKC and AKC) are severe and debilitating disorders. 23. The role of Malassezia in the pathogenesis of atopic eczema/dermatitis syndrome
Sammanfattning : Atopic eczema/dermatitis syndrome (AEDS) is a chronically relapsing skin disease, which is often associated with elevated levels of serum lgE. The immunopathology of AEDS is at present unclear, but it is known that lymphocytes infiltrating the AEDS lesions are predominantly of the CD4+ T helper phenotype. LÄS MER
24. Hairdressers : hand eczema, hair dyes and hand protection
Sammanfattning : Hand eczema is a well-known problem in occupations that involve largely manual work, in combination with long periods of wet exposure and skin contact with chemicals. Hairdressing involves dermal exposure to a number of skin damaging substances. LÄS MER
25. Prediction and prevention of allergy in infants and children
Sammanfattning : Atopic disposition is hereditary with varying penetrance. A carefully obtained family history of atopic disease (FH) is useful as a predictor but has low sensitivity. Other tested predictors such as cord blood (CB) IgE, counts of different CB cell elements and combinations of predictors all have a similar, or even lower sensitivity and specificity. LÄS MER
