1. Thermal properties of volume Bragg gratings and its implications on lasers
Sammanfattning : This thesis contains the results of research on the spectral control of lasers, specifically, the thermal limitations of volume Bragg gratings (VBGs), employed as laser-cavity end mirrors. The investigations consisted of both experiments and numerical simulations. LÄS MER
2. Generation of coherent short-wavelength radiation --- High-order harmonics and x-ray lasers
Sammanfattning : The recent availability of short-pulse, high-intensity, compact lasers has opened doors to new and fascinating areas in atomic physics. Using the Lund Terawatt Laser, the interaction of femtosecond, near-infrared and visible laser radiation with matter at intensities in the range 1013--1017 W/cm2 was studied. LÄS MER
3. Blue Laser Source for Laser-Induced Fluorescence
Sammanfattning : Laser-induced fluorescence is a clinical diagnostic tool, used for tumor demarcation and detection. The technique relies on the injection or topical application of a light sensitive drug called a photosensitizer. This substance has the ability to be accumulated to higher concentrations in cancer cells than in normal cells. LÄS MER
4. Laser diode systems for photodynamic therapy and medical diagnostics
Sammanfattning : This work concerns techniques for improvement of the coherence properties of diode lasers so that they may be used in two specific medical applications: (Interstitial) photodynamic therapy (PDT) and laser-induced fluorescence diagnostics. In the first application, spatial coherence is crucial, since the treatment light should be delivered through relatively thin optical fibers to optimize treatment and to facilitate minimally invasive treatment. 5. Light propagation and photonic functionalization of semi-ordered material (transparent wood)
Sammanfattning : Investigating novel materials requires understanding their chemical and optical properties, which allows for finding their uses through functionalization by chemical modification. In this thesis, we are focusing on a material with high anisotropic scattering - transparent wood. LÄS MER
