21. Variability and feedbacks in the middle atmosphere
Sammanfattning : The importance of the middle atmosphere for the weather and climate on Earth is increasingly realized. Variability and feedback processes in the middle atmosphere need to be better understood and form the subject of this thesis. LÄS MER
22. The mutual interaction between the time-mean atmospheric circulation and continental-scale ice sheets
Sammanfattning : Geomorphological evidence of glaciations exist for the Last Glacial Maximum (about 20 kyr ago). At this time, both North America and Eurasia were covered by extensive ice sheets which are both absent today. LÄS MER
23. Chemical perspectives on aerosol-cloud interactions in the High Arctic
Sammanfattning : Atmospheric aerosol particles have important yet highly uncertain impacts on the Earth’s climate, with the largest uncertainties residing in the interactions between aerosols and clouds. The extent to which aerosols act as cloud condensation nuclei (CCN) depends on the chemical composition and size of the particles. LÄS MER
24. Investigating aerosol effects on stratocumulus clouds through large-eddy simulation
Sammanfattning : Clouds have a large impact on Earth’s radiative budget by reflecting, absorbing and re-emitting radiation. They thus play a critical role in the climate system. Nevertheless, cloud radiative effects in a changing climate are highly uncertain. LÄS MER
25. Chemical composition of summertime High Arctic aerosols
Sammanfattning : This thesis presents new insights into the chemical composition of semi-volatile compounds in aerosol samples collected in the central Arctic Ocean close to the North Pole in September 2018. The central Arctic Ocean is an inaccessible location due to the lack of land areas along with heavy pack ice conditions. LÄS MER
