  1. 1. Association Phenomena in Aqueous Solutions of Surfactants and Hydrophobically Modified Polymers

    Författare :Susanne Nilsson; Fysikalisk kemi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; self-diffusion; rheology; cellulose ethers; associating polymers; polymer-surfactant interactions; polymer network; Fysikalisk kemi; Physical chemistry;

    Sammanfattning : Interactions between ionic surfactants (sodium dodecyl sulfate and dodecyltrimethylammonium chloride) and nonionic polymers ((hydroxyethyl)cellulose, ethyl(hydroxyethyl)cellulose and their hydrophobically modified analogous) have been studied by means of rheology, pulsed field gradient nuclear magnetic resonance (PFG NMR), time-resolved fluorescence quenching (TRFQ), dynamic light scattering (DLS) and cryo-transmission electron microscopy (cryo-TEM). In all experiments surfactants have been added in various amounts to polymer solutions at fixed concentrations. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Magnetic relaxation studies of self-associating and membrane proteins

    Författare :Michael Gottschalk; Lund University Bioimaging Center; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; beta-lactoglobulin A; Biokemisk teknik; Biochemical technology; HEWL; BPTI; bacteriorhodopsin; protein self-association; membrane proteins; NMR; magnetic relaxation dispersion;

    Sammanfattning : Magnetic relaxation dispersion measurements have been performed on aqueous protein solutions to study the dynamics of waters in the proton transport channel of bacteriorhodopsin and the self-association of the proteins BPTI, lysozyme and beta-lactoglobulin. The measurements have focused on the bulk relaxation rates, R1 and R2, of three water nuclei 1H, 2H and 17O that are coupled to the protein environments by exchange and therefore report on properties such as the protein tumbling and dynamics of internal waters. 3. 3. Characterisation of Aqueous Solutions, Liquid Crystals and Solid State of Non-ionic Polymers in Association with Amphiphiles and Drugs

    Författare :Annika Ridell; Martin Malmsten; Sven Engström; David Attwood; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Physical chemistry; polymer; surfactant; phase diagram; x-ray diffraction; fluorescence spectroscopy; calorimetry; PEG; cellulose ether; viscometry; cubic phase; liquid crystals; drugs; solid dispersion; Fysikalisk kemi; Physical chemistry; Fysikalisk kemi; Fysikalisk och oorganisk farmaceutisk kemi; Physical and Inorganic Pharmaceutical Chemistry;

    Sammanfattning : Cellulose ethers and polyethylene glycols are used in drug formulations as water swelling or water soluble matrices. Polar lipids, for example monoglycerides, and surfactants can be used to solubilise hydrophobic or amphiphilic drugs and to formulate potential drug delivery vehicles such as emulsions, liposomes and cubic phases. 4. 4. Surfactant Responsive Cross-Linked Polymer Hydrogels

    Författare :Jesper Sjöström; Research Policy Institute (RPI); []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Physical chemistry; Fysikalisk kemi; Two-step binding isotherms; Resolubilization; Nonmonotonic transient volume changes; Swelling isotherms; Divinyl sulfone DVS ; Polyquaternium; Cellulose ethers; Amphiphilic cross-linked polymers; Responsive gels; Polymer-surfactant interactions;

    Sammanfattning : The focus of the thesis is on chemically cross-linked hydrogels which drastically change their volume when immersed in solutions of different ionic surfactants (with or without added salt). The two main questions addressed are: (1) How useful are simple gel swelling experiments to the study of polymer-surfactant interactions?, and (2) How does the volume of a cross-linked polymer gel change when it is immersed in a surfactant solution, both with respect to the equilibrium swelling and with respect to transient volume changes? Most of the gels studied were prepared by cross-linking linear polymers, which were well studied derivatives of hydroxyethyl cellulose (HEC). LÄS MER

  5. 5. Assessing self-association of intrinsically disordered proteins by coarse-grained simulations and SAXS

    Författare :Ellen Rieloff; Beräkningskemi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Intrinsically disordered proteins; Self-association; Coarse-grained modelling; Monte Carlo simulations; Small-angle X-ray scattering SAXS ; statherin;

    Sammanfattning : This research investigates the behavior of intrinsically disordered proteins (IDPs) in solution, especially the self-associating saliva protein Statherin, by a combined computational and experimental approach. For the computational part, a bead necklace model previously parameterised for Histatin 5 was used. LÄS MER
