11. Comprehensive Description of the Interactions between Silicate Bed Materials and Biomass Ash during DFB gasification
Sammanfattning : The utilization of biomass for energy generation is a CO2 neutral alternative to fossil fuel. A suitable way of thermal conversion of biomass is dual fluidized bed (DFB) gasification where biomass is converted to a raw gas which can subsequently be used for chemical synthesis. LÄS MER
12. Towards the Improvement of Salt Extraction from Lake Katwe Raw Materials in Uganda
Sammanfattning : Uganda is well endowed with economic quantities of mineral salts present in the interstitial brines and evaporite deposits of Lake Katwe, a closed (endorheic) saline lake located in the western branch of the great East African rift valley. Currently, rudimentally and artisanal methods continue to be used for salt extraction from the lake raw materials. LÄS MER
13. Effect of fuel composition and combustion conditions on phosphorus behavior during combustion of biomass
Sammanfattning : Due to concerns for climate change and future supply of phosphorus fertilizer within agriculture, there has been an increased interest in the combustion of phosphorus containing waste residues and opportunity biomass fuels. Previous research has shown that during combustion, phosphorus has large impact on ash transformation reactions and may decrease or increase ash-related problems such as slag formation and bed agglomeration. 14. Refractory corrosion in biomass gasification
Sammanfattning : To stop the net emission of CO2 to the atmosphere, we need to reduce our dependency of fossil fuels. Although a switch to a bio-based feedstock hardly can replace the total amount of fossils used today, utilization of biomass does still have a role in a future in combination with other techniques. 15. Role of soil organic matter for immobilisation of metals : treatment of leachate from MSWI bottom ashes
Sammanfattning : In this thesis, the focus is laid on the ability of natural organic matter (OM) to serve as a metal stabilising agent. The metal contaminants investigated arise from the MSWI bottom ash leachate. Besides the high content of metals, elevated pH and salinity are characteristic for ash leachate that, in turn, can alter the functionality of OM. LÄS MER
