  1. 1. Articulatory-Acoustic Relationships in Swedish Vowel Sounds

    Författare :Christine Ericsdotter; Olle Engstrand; Björn Lindblom; Peter Ladefoged; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; Swedish vowels; articulatory modelling; MRI; Phonetics; Fonetik;

    Sammanfattning : The goal of this work was to evaluate the performance of a classical method for predicting vocal tract cross-sectional areas from cross-distances, to be implemented in speaker-specific articulatory modelling. The data forming the basis of the evaluation were magnetic resonance images from the vocal tract combined with simultaneous audio and video recordings. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Modelling Phone-Level Pronunciation in Discourse Context

    Författare :Per-Anders Jande; Rolf Carlson; Merle Horne; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Pronunciation modelling; Pronunciation variation; Discourse-context; Phone-level variation; Central standard Swedish; Spoken language annotation; Data-driven methods; Machine learning; Decision trees; Pronunciation lexicon development; Machine-readable lexicon; Phonology; Discourse; Lexicon; Language technology; Språkteknologi;

    Sammanfattning : Analytic knowledge about the systematic variation in a language has an important place in the description of the language. Such knowledge is interesting e.g. in the language teaching domain, as a background for various types of linguistic studies, and in the development of more dynamic speech technology applications. 3. 3. Articulation in time : Some word-initial segments in Swedish

    Författare :Malin Svensson Lundmark; Fonetik; []
    Nyckelord :HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; acceleration; articulation; articulography; coarticulation; EMA; gesture; phonology; prosody; speech motor control; speech production modelling; Swedish; word accent; tone;

    Sammanfattning : Speech is both dynamic and distinctive at the same time. This implies a certain contradiction which has entertained researchers in phonetics and phonology for decades. The present dissertation assumes that articulation behaves as a function of time, and that we can find phonological structures in the dynamical systems. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Mining Speech Sounds : Machine Learning Methods for Automatic Speech Recognition and Analysis

    Författare :Giampiero Salvi; Björn Granström; Torbjørn Svendsen; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; speech; machine learning; data mining; signal processing; Computer science; Datavetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis collects studies on machine learning methods applied to speech technology and speech research problems. The six research papers included in this thesis are organised in three main areas. The first group of studies were carried out within the European project Synface. LÄS MER
