  1. 1. Modelling collective movement and transport network formation in living systems

    Författare :Arianna Bottinelli; David Sumpter; Renaud Lambiotte; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; animal collective behaviour; transport networks; crowd dynamics; complex systems; ants; fish; Tillämpad matematik och statistik; Applied Mathematics and Statistics;

    Sammanfattning : The emergence of collective patterns from repeated local interactions between individuals is a common feature to most living systems, spanning a variety of scales from cells to animals and humans. Subjects of this thesis are two aspects of emergent complexity in living systems: collective movement and transport network formation. LÄS MER

  2. 2. The γ-aminobutyric acid and proton signaling systems in the zebrafish brain : Characterization and effect of stress

    Författare :Arianna Cocco; Svante Winberg; William H. J. Norton; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; g-aminobutyric acid GABA ; GABAA receptors; adult zebrafish; central nervous system; gene expression profiling; extracellular acidification.; Biokemi; Biochemistry;

    Sammanfattning : The central nervous system of vertebrates is continuously processing sensory information relayed from the periphery, integrating it and producing outputs transmitted to efferents. In the brain, neurons employ an array of messenger molecules to filter afferent information and finely regulate synaptic transmission. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Theoretical studies of mononuclear non-heme iron active sites

    Författare :Arianna Bassan; Per E. M. Siegbahn; Sason Shaik; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; quantum chemistry; enzyme catalysis; iron enzymes; Quantum chemistry; Kvantkemi;

    Sammanfattning : The quantum chemical investigations presented in this thesis use hybrid density functional theory to shed light on the catalytic mechanisms of mononuclear non-heme iron oxygenases, accommodating a ferrous ion in their active sites. More specifically, the dioxygen activation process and the subsequent oxidative reactions in the following enzymes were studied: tetrahydrobiopterin-dependent hydroxylases, naphthalene 1,2-dioxygenase and α-ketoglutarate-dependent enzymes. 4. 4. A Divided Old Age through Research on Digital Technologies

    Författare :Arianna Poli; Andreas Motel-Klingebiel; Susanne Kelfve; Marijke Veenstra; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Digital inequalities; Involvement in research; Biased outcomes; Old age exclusion; Old age social inequalities; Disuguaglianze digitali; Coinvolgimento nella ricerca; Risultati distorti bias ; Esclusione in età anziana; Disuguaglianze sociali in età anziana; Digital ojämlikhet; Forskningsdeltagande; Snedvridna resultat; Exkludering av äldre; Social ojämlikhet bland äldre;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis aims at contributing to the understanding of digital inequalities among older people, by studying the involvement of older people in research on digital technologies. Some mechanisms driving old age digital inequalities are well known. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Pathophysiological effects of alpha-synuclein on SNARE complex proteins in models of alpha-synucleinopathies

    Författare :Emma Brolin; Joakim Bergström; Anna Erlandsson; Martin Ingelsson; Arianna Bellucci; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Alpha-synuclein; Parkinson’s disease; synaptosome; SNARE complex; proximity ligation assay; extracellular vesicles;

    Sammanfattning : Accumulation and spread of alpha-synuclein (α-syn) aggregates are central to the disease pathogenesis of Parkinson’s disease and dementia with Lewy bodies, collectively known as α-synucleinopathies. Native α-syn is a monomeric presynaptic protein that can act as a molecular chaperone for the soluble N-ethylmaleimide-sensitive factor attachment protein receptor (SNARE) complex assembly. LÄS MER
