  1. 1. Large Area Propellers

    Författare :Daniel Knutsson; Chalmers University of Technology; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; propeller hull interaction; propulsive efficiency; large propellers;

    Sammanfattning : Even if shipping is the most energy efficient and inexpensive way of transporting large volumes of goods across the world, it still could be significantly improved with respect to energy efficiency.In this thesis, propulsive efficiency is improved by moving the propeller backwards from its original position and increasing its diameter. 2. 2. Methods and techniques for precise and accurate in-duct aero-acoustic measurements : Application to the area expansion

    Författare :Luck Peerlings; Susann Boij; Hans Bodén; Yves Aurégan; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Area-expansion; Scattering matrix; Multi-microphone method; Engineering Mechanics; Teknisk mekanik;

    Sammanfattning : During the design and commissioning of combustion equipment, combustion associated instabilities are commonly encountered. These thermo-acoustic instabilities can cause undesirable noise, vibrations, local thermal and mechanical stresses in the combustor and are prominent in lean combustion. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Bacterial antibody hydrolyzing enzymes – as bacterial virulence factors and biotechnological tools

    Författare :Eleni Bratanis; Infektionsmedicin; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Immunoglobulins; Immunomodulation; Antibody mediated immunity; Glycosylation; Bacterial virulence; Bacterial enzymes; Biotechnology; streptococcus pyogenes; Bdellovibrio bacteriovorus;

    Sammanfattning : Antibodies are an essential part of the human immune system, and antibody mediated immunity has been an area of interest for many researchers for almost a century. An accumulation of knowledge regarding antibody structure, glycosylation and receptor interactions has contributed to the current understanding of antibody mediated immunity. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Human milk as a source of tumor killing molecules. From MAL to HAMLET

    Författare :Anki Mossberg; immunologi och glykobiologi - MIG Avdelningen för mikrobiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; alphalactalbumin; human milk; Protein folding; cancer;

    Sammanfattning : HAMLET (Human alphalactalbumin made lethal to tumor cells), a complex between the partially unfolded alphalactalbumin and oleic acid, was discovered by serendipity when anti-adhesive properties of human milk were examined. HAMLET kills tumor cells but not healthy differentiated cells. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Mechanisms of HAMLET-induced cancer cell death

    Författare :Sonja Aits; immunologi och glykobiologi - MIG Avdelningen för mikrobiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; alpha-actinin; prohibitin; alpha-lactalbumin; HAMLET; cancer; cell death; autophagy; focal adhesions; c-Myc; hexokinase; glycolysis;

    Sammanfattning : HAMLET, a complex of α-lactalbumin and oleic acid, preferentially kills cancer cells and is also effective in vivo. HAMLET causes apoptosis but cells die even if this pathway is inhibited. Thus, the role of autophagy, an alternative cell death pathway, was examined. LÄS MER
