  1. 21. Mathematical Learning Disability : Cognitive Conditions, Development and Predictions

    Författare :Rickard Östergren; Ulf Träff; Joakim Samuelsson; Örjan Dahlström; Åke Olofsson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Mathematical learning disability; dyscalculia; mathematical cognition; number sense; Matematiska inlärningssvårigheter; dyskalkyli; matematisk kognition; antalsuppfattning;

    Sammanfattning : The purpose of the present thesis was to test and contrast hypotheses about the cognitive conditions that support the development of mathematical learning disability (MLD). Following hypotheses were tested in the thesis: a) domain general deficit, the deficit is primarily located in the domain general systems such as the working memory, b) number sense deficit, the deficit is located in the innate approximate number system (ANS), c) numerosity coding deficit, the deficit is located to a exact number representation system, d) access deficit, the deficit is in the mapping between symbols and the innate number representational system (e. 2. 22. Sounds of silence : Phonological awareness and written language in children with and without speech

    Författare :Janna Ferreira; Jerker Rönnberg; Åsa Wengelin; Stefan Gustafson; Annika Dahlgren Sandberg; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; phonological awareness; intervention; motor speech impairment; reading impairment; reading; spelling; literacy; läshandikapp; läsning; stavning; läs- och skrivförmåga; fonologisk medvetenhet; intervention; talhandikapp; Disability research; Handikappsforskning;

    Sammanfattning : Avhandlingens övergripande syfte var att undersöka fonologisk medvetenhet och skriftspråklig förmåga hos talande eller icke-talande barn, med lässvårigheter eller motoriska talsvårigheter. De huvudsakliga fynden i denna avhandling var: (1) För barn med lässvårigheter som befinner sig på en tidig nivå i sin läsutveckling bör intervention kring läs- och skrivförmågor fokusera på barnets svaghet snarare än styrkan vad gäller ordavkodning. 3. 23. Words Don’t Come Easy : Decoding and Reading Comprehension Difficulties in Adolescents with Intellectual Disability

    Författare :Karin Nilsson; Henrik Danielsson; Åsa Elwér; Stefan Samuelsson; Kate Cain; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Intellectual disability; Decoding; Reading comprehension; Intellektuell funktionsnedsättning; Avkodning; Läsförståelse;

    Sammanfattning : Individuals with intellectual disability (ID) have difficulties with decoding and reading comprehension. However, studies focussing on why these difficulties occur are very sparse, and the existing literature has found conflicting results. LÄS MER

  4. 24. Neurogenesis in the adult brain from ballyhoo to sobriety

    Författare :Helena Frielingsdorf; Institutionen för experimentell medicinsk vetenskap; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; neuropsykologi; neurofysiologi; Neurologi; neurophysiology; neuropsychology; Neurology; Nerve growth factor; acetylcholine; GABA; learning; hippocampus; Neurogenesis; dopamine; substantia nigra;

    Sammanfattning : New neurons are spontaneously generated in two regions of the adult brain, the hippocampus and the subventricular zone/olfactory bulb. The objective of this thesis was to study potential implications for adult neurogenesis in Alzheimer's (AD) and Parkinson's diseases (PD). LÄS MER

  5. 25. Health, Experienced Support and School Performance among Children in Out-of-home care

    Författare :Rikard Tordön; Gunilla Sydsjö; Carl Göran Svedin; Martin Bergström; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Children in out-of-home care (OHC) have higher risks for developing poorer health and school achievement, being subjected to more abuse experiences, as well as negative long-term outcomes related to occupational performance, socioeconomic status, addiction, and criminality. Research related to OHC children is fragmented and the effects of interventions are under-studied. LÄS MER
