  1. 11. Functional clustering methods and marital fertility modelling

    Författare :Per Arnqvist; Sara Sjöstedt de Luna; Leif Nilsson; Helle Sørensen; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; censoring; Coale-Trussell model; EM-algorithm; functional data analysis; functional clustering; marital fertility; normal approximation; Poisson process; varved lake sediments; warping; Mathematical Statistics; matematisk statistik;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis consists of two parts.The first part considers further development of a model used for marital fertility, the Coale-Trussell's fertility model, which is based on age-specific fertility rates. A new model is suggested using individual fertility data and a waiting time after pregnancies. LÄS MER

  2. 12. Applied Adaptive Optimal Design and Novel Optimization Algorithms for Practical Use

    Författare :Eric Strömberg; Andrew Hooker; Mats Karlsson; Timothy Waterhouse; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Nonlinear Mixed Effects Models; Pharmacometrics; Fisher Information Matrix; Approximation; Optimality Criterion; Parallelization; Model Based Adaptive Optimal Design; Pharmaceutical Science; Farmaceutisk vetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : The costs of developing new pharmaceuticals have increased dramatically during the past decades. Contributing to these increased expenses are the increasingly extensive and more complex clinical trials required to generate sufficient evidence regarding the safety and efficacy of the drugs. 3. 13. Contributions to Numerical Solution of Stochastic Differential Equations

    Författare :Anders Muszta; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; adaptive method; change of time; CIR model; CKLS model; convergence order; Euler method; heavy-tailed SDE; hyperbolic SDE; geometric integration; global Lipschitz condition; Levy process; Lie group method; local Lipschitz condition; local martingales; mean reversion; Milstein method; numerical method; semimartingale; stochastic differential equation; stochastic Taylor expansion; strong approximation; symplectic integration; volatility induced stationarity; waveform relaxation; volatility induced stationarity;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis consists of four papers: Paper I is an overview of recent techniques in strong numerical solutions of stochastic differential equations, driven by Wiener processes, that have appeared the last then 10 years, or so. Paper II studies theoretical and numerical aspects of stochastic differential equations with so called volatility induced stationarity. LÄS MER

  4. 14. Efficiency of a wood-fired bakery oven - Improvement by Theoretical and Practical

    Författare :Fabiao Manhica; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; flow pattern; temperature profile; airflow; CFD; Wood-fired bakery oven WFBO ; bread quality;

    Sammanfattning : Combustion of biomass in small-scale furnaces is widely used in many countries and in different applications. The technology used is often “fixed grate” combustion in small batch furnaces. LÄS MER

  5. 15. Parameter estimation in heterogeneous catalysis

    Författare :Jonas Sjöblom; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; microkinetic modelling; Jacobian; Parameter estimation; Latent Variable models; Design of experiments; heterogeneous catalysis; sensitivity analysis; Experimental design;

    Sammanfattning : The detailed modelling of heterogeneous catalytic systems is challenging due to the unknown nature of new catalytic materials as well as the often required transient nature of the resulting models. Thus, this thesis deals with the methodologies involved in the kinetic modelling of heterogeneous catalysis and in particular NOx reduction systems. LÄS MER
