  1. 21. Cholinesterase inhibitors in Alzheimer's disease : an experimental study on mechanisms of interatcion with muscarinic and nicotinic receptors and neuroprotection

    Författare :Anne-Lie Svensson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Alzheimer s disease Cholinesterase inhibitors Muscarinic receptors Nicotinic receptors Acetylcholine release Neuroprotection B-amyloid apolipoprotein E;

    Sammanfattning : The overall aim of this thesis was to investigate the mechanisms beyond the interaction of cholinesterase inhibitors (ChEIs) with the cholinergic system in brain, with emphasis on their regulatory and mechanistic effects on subtypes of muscarinic and nicotinic receptors and neuroprotective properties. To investigate muscarinic receptor subtypes in frontal cortices of AD brains, the muscarinic antagonists pirenzepine, AF-DX 116, HHSiD, p-F-HHSiD and himbacine were used in receptor binding assays. 2. 22. Functional characterisation of polymorphisms in candidate genes for coronary heart disease

    Författare :Ferdinand M van't Hooft; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :fibrinogen; coagulation factor VII; apolipoprotein B; hepatic lipase; angiotensinogen; atherosclerosis; low density lipoprotein; high density lipoprotein; blood pressure;

    Sammanfattning : Coronary heart disease (CHD) is a multifactorial disorder. Several important risk factors, in particular cigarette smoking, hypertension, hypercholesterolaemia, reduced high density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol concentration and hyperglycaemia, have been defined. LÄS MER

  3. 23. Low density lipoprotein (LDL) heterogeneity : implications for cardiovascular disease and genetic influence

    Författare :Camilla Skoglund Andersson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Low density lipoprotein; gradient gel electrophoresis; intima-media thickness; atherosclerosis; myocardial infarction; low density lipoprotein oxidation; cholesteryl ester transfer protein; lipoprotein lipase; hepatic lipase; apolipoprotein E; apolipoprotein B; microsomal triglyceride transfer protein; genetics; lipoproteins; metabolism;

    Sammanfattning : The low density lipoprotein (LDL) particle population is heterogeneous with regard to several structural and functional properties that may influence its atherogenic potential. A preponderance of small, dense LDL is associated with an increased risk of coronary heart disease (CHD), and also predicts future CHD events. LÄS MER

  4. 24. Molecular mechanisms of Ab amyloid deposition in Alzheimer disease

    Författare :Jan Näslund; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Alzheimer disease amyloid apolipoprotein E fibrils ligands liquid chromatography mass spectrometry protease resistance;

    Sammanfattning : The general aim of this study was to investigate the mechanisms underlying amyloid b-peptide (Ab) amyloid deposition in Alzheimer disease (AD) brain. Primary structure of intact Ab variants in amyloid partially purified from brains of AD patients and non-demented controls was determined. LÄS MER

  5. 25. Triglyceride-rich lipoproteins : postprandial metabolism and composition in relation to atherosclerosis

    Författare :Johan Björkegren; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :triglyceride-rich lipoproteins; very low density lipoproteins; chylomicrons; lipoprotein remnants; apolipoprotein E and C; cholesterol; atherosclerosis;

    Sammanfattning : A relationship between postprandial lipaemia and coronary heart disease (CHD) was established as early as the 1950s. Since then, most attention has been paid to postprandial triglyceride-rich lipoproteins (TRLs) of intestinal origin, i.e. chylomicrons and chylomicron remnants, whereas TRLs of hepatic origin, i.
